Plumber required for central heating problem - Jane I (28th Mar 2013 - 17:26:41)
We have a problem with our central heating and have told we need to get our system jetted through to get rid of all the gunk in it...currently some radiators are not working.
Recommendations or offers please?
Thank you!

Have you tried the simple stuff like making sure they are turned on full? Are they getting hot at the bottom and staying cold a the top. If so they need bleeding. Bleeding a radiator is a 5 minute job. Can you post your symptoms, as no doubt someone will know whether you need to undertake a spot of DIY or get a plumber in

Hi Jane.
As Richard has pointed out already, some radiators not working could be due to a number of issues and I would suggest some fault finding before going down the route of flushing of the system.
I am not saying that it is the wrong solution as I don't know the history of your problems and depending on the age of the systems etc it may well need doing anyway.
other common causes:
air in the system
air in the radiators
balancing issue
TRV issue if fitted (thermostatic radiator valve)

We were having a new radiator fitted today and all the above were done but still can't get any radiators downstairs to work.
We have been told we need to get the system flushed through...help please it's freezing!!

I had a very similar problem some years ago. I was replacing a radiator too! The answer turned out to be an airlock in the pipework below the ground floor which the pump didn't have the power to shift.
I flushed the system with a garden hose through the ground floor pipework. The water pressure did the trick in the end.
We have some electric heaters we can lend if you haven't sorted it out yet.

Mike, thank you very much for your kind offer. Very strangely our radiators came on this morning! BUT the chap fitting the radiator did flush the system through with a hose but ended up with loads of c**p coming out of the system. Nothing was working when he left but is now.
But we do want to get the system jetted through properly as he thought that we will probably get more problems further down the line.
