- Liphook Junior School (22nd Mar 2013 - 10:00:32)
Liphook Junior School are replacing their classroom furniture and will have a large surplus of tables and chairs for ages 7 to 11 years. If you would like any of these items could you please call the school office on 01428 722490 before Thursday 28th March. You would have to collect them from the school as we would be unable to deliver.

As a parent of a child at this school I feel the money spent replacing perfectly good tables and chairs would be better spent replacing the broken and unsecure fence between the field and the avenue road.
This fence is very unsafe and broken due to it being far to low and only made of wire, making it very easy for undesirables to climb over and enter the school grounds. Resulting in the area looking like a rubbish tip.

I am sure there is a reason why the furniture is being replaced, but can the school enlighten us as to why please?

Annon the table and chairs are being replaced because they are old and tired looking having new ones will make it a nicer place for the children to learn at least the money is being spent on the children and for their benefit can you just not say thank you to the Head Teacher for doing this and having their best interest at heart she does an amazing job with the children she always puts them first.Do you not replace your furniture at home when it gets old so that you can live in a nice place. As for the fencing if you are that concerned why dont you contact the local council and ask them about it maybe they will be able to help or you could always come to one of the working parties and perhaps you could help us to fix it.Rowlson if you would like to know why the tables and chairs are being replaced why not ask the school yourself but hopefully i have answered it here for you.

Sheila, A quick clarification please. Are you speaking on behalf of the school, are a parent who has been advised by the school or none of the above please? Replacing tired furniture is a good thing as maintenance costs are probably higher on the older furniture, but asking for some information about where our taxes are being spent is not unusual in these financially constrained times. This was why I asked my question. For the record, I am NOT questioning the school's financial decisions, but merely asked for some info.

I find it very sad that yet again the school are trying to do something positive by improving the environment that children are learning in and it has now become a negative!
The school are not obliged to offer this furniture, they could just have it dumped in which case many would not have even known there was new furniture!
As far as the fencing goes, I think you will find this is down to the County Council, as are the pot holes around the area!
The schools are trying to make positive changes to benefit the children, can they not be supported in this??

Having worked in education, I know that they have budgets allocated for certain items only. So the school will have a rolling furniture renewal budget that can only be spent on such items. Don't spend it you lose it, and you cannot re-allocate to something else.
As for the fence, this was renewed last summer. I as a parent find it very irritating seeing children climbing over it to shave seconds off their school journey. It is only in it's stretched state again because their parents do not stop them. I do agree, however, that it should be a higher fence to avoid this abuse.

Dear all I have never used this site but heard there were comments regarding our new furniture. I\'m thrilled people are taking an interest in the school. I thought as the executive headteacher I would try to answer a few of these comments. I won\'t make a habit of this though!
The fence was replaced this summer along the Avenue and sadly people have climbed over it. It isn\'t the children at the school that are climbing but adults and youths. On the whole though there is very little vandalism so we are grateful for that.
As for the furniture it hasn\'t been replaced in decades! It has been a mishmash of colours and as someone said we do have budgets that are allocated for certain items. We believe that it is vital to create a positive learning environment which the children will respect and florish in. The children are thrilled, it is much more urgonomic too so the children should learn even better and it will be better for their posture, including those children who have physical disabilities. The old furniture is going to some of our families and the rest is going to a school in Ghana, (through a charity) that a parent has given us the contact for so, we are delighted that none of it will go to waste. From all us at the schools happy Easter

Michele, thanks for your reply. From my viewpoint it is nice to hear why our funds are being spent, and that some further use will also be gained from the furniture as it is recycled into other parts of the world to the enhancement of other people's education.

Something needs to be done in this country around the whole budget thing whereby if you don't use it, you lose it. All this does is encourage waste and frivolous spending.

Wonderful news! Our tables and chairs are being collected on Thursday 4th April to be shipped out to Gambia to be used by children in schools.
If there are any adults who could help load these in to a container please arrive at Liphook Junior School for 9.45 am.
In the interest of health and safety no children please.
