And Now For Some Good News . . .
- Paul Robinson (8th Mar 2013 - 16:48:05)
In these times of austerity it is good to hear that Hampshire County Council has made available funds to support worthy causes.
An incentive called 'Approved By You' has awarded the following grants for Liphook charities as a result of public support.
Community Support Laundry of Liphook, £250.00 to pay for annual servicing of washing machines and dryers.
Liphook Day Centre £250.00 toward the purchase of six new tables for the Peak Centre.
Senior Citizens Lunch Club (Liphook) £500.00 to subsidise their weekly lunches.
In addition to these grants Liphook In Bloom was awarded £500.00 from the Community Project Fund in order to replace Christmas Decorations which were stolen late last year.
Our thanks go to Ferris Cowper our County Councillor and Liz Panton at East Hants District Council for their hard work in securing this money and for adjudicating at the 'Approved By You' event.

Liphook Day Centre Trustees and Committee were pleased to have been awarded the sum of £250 last evening at "Have your say Grant Awards" at Whitehill Community Centre and send special thanks to Ferris Cowper Liz Paton and everyone concerned who arranged the evening and the public who voted for us.
It was a very enjoyable evening and being able to hear about other organisations and what their grants were to be used for.
Our grant is to be used for the purchase of some lighter tables because the ones which are used at present have been in use over the last 30 years and were originally old school tables so have really stood the test of time. The lighter ones will be better to handle and will be able to be folded away when not in use.
Thank you

I did not know that Liphook in Bloom was a charity. Looked on the Charity Commission register and there is no sign of them. This website shows them as a Charity as well. I am sure the chairman of Liphook in Bloom can explain. Misleading that they are called a charity.

I am sure they could have had more money to give away if they had not used envelopes for the derlivery of the spring edition of the Hampshire now magazine. Rather a waste I. feel

Sorry I couldn't make the evening, but great news for all the local charities concerned. Liphook would be a sadder place without the work of all these local organisations and their volunteers.
Kat, I think you may be getting a bit confused over a REGISTERED charity and charities, not for profit organisations etc. The Charity Commissions own website says:
Types of charity that do not have to register:
You might think that every charity or voluntary organisation has to register with us. But not all voluntary organisations are charities, and some charities don’t have to register. There are hundreds of thousands of voluntary organisations in the UK, but fewer than 180,000 of them are charities registered with us.
Becoming a REGISTERED charity is very time consuming, you have to have an annual income of over £5k, and the charity commission recognises that for most small local organisations this is simply not necessary.
I don't think NOT having a registered charity number detracts from the magnificent work the team do: hard fund raising activities, litter picking, Christmas lights and carol singing in the square as well as planting and maintaining the flower beds makes any difference do you?

I still think it is misleading. Perhaps it would be better if all the charities listed on this website were shown as registered charities or charitable orgnanisations. I never made any comment about the work they do only they way they are listed.

As the previous poster has said not all charities are registered? The other organisations that received money are probably not registered either? Lunch club? as far as I am aware the lunch club is open to anyone over sixty to join and they also pay for their meals?
