Clr Ferris Cowper - report
- Editor (26th Feb 2013 - 08:55:39)

Highlights from Clr Cowper's report to Bramshott & Liphook Parish Council (incorrectly dated 28th January 2013).

Walk to Woolmer Hill School Through Hammer Lane, Bramshott

This has hit a small hiccup with resistance from Surrey to the proposed solution. Unfortunately a tiny stretch of the road falls inside Surrey due to a strange twist of the county boundary. Hampshire Highways are re-assessing the option to put the footpath on the MoD side of the road.

The position taken by Surrey CC has not gone down well with parents and the school. However Hampshire CC is continuing to work on the alternative without any delay.

Bramshott Lanes

Traffic calming work is due to begin this civic year. There has been a request to consider speed humps or ramps as well as the proposed signage. Initial estimates put this extra cost at around £50,000 and I don’t feel I can justify that at this stage. As a result propose to take a phased approach and see if the signage achieves the objective before committing further funds.

Midhurst Road Flooding

I’m concerned at the lack of progress here and will chase up Hampshire Highways.

“Have Your Say”

As a reminder, this meeting will be on Thursday 7th March. HCC have launched a new grant budget of £2,500 per county councillor, the fate of which will be decided by public vote. This meeting will be run a little like a Community Forum except that I will not be in the chair. However, we will convene a Special Community Forum as soon as the business is concluded to see if we can approve any EHDC Area Community Funds to help out those applicants unsuccessful in the “Have Your Say” debate.

As always full report available from BLPC website.

Further to the full report that has been published elsewhere, I think HCC did a fantastic job in the snow this year keeping routes clear and bins topped up. Will the lessons they learned and applied be shared with Highways, as they still have some way to go...

Why are Surrey being so mean?

Also can I put in a request for please, please no more signs in Bramshott. Those who speed will take no notice, they will be an eyesore and a waste of money.

Some residents have also requested speed humps, I personally would not like to see a countryside area like Bramshott turned into Tower Road please contact Councillor Cowper if you are against this idea.

£50000 for speed bumps and signs? Someone's having you on! Here's my quote after a quick search on Google shopping:

Aluminium speed bump warning sign with steel post and fixing clips: £140 each
Bag of quick-setting concrete for each post: £4.29 each
10 mph speed bump, 5 metre, including fixings and connectors: £347 each
Labour provided by local volunteers: free
Lavish lunch to thanks volunteers: say, £1000

All prices include VAT.

Depending how many are required, that leaves roughly £46000 to spend on something else. A limousine perhaps? :-)

When can we start?
