Old TV Removal
- Julie (10th Feb 2013 - 14:07:50)

Can anyone suggest how we might get rid of an old Philips 32" CRT TV? It's very heavy to lift. Are there any local companies/charities who might take it away for a small fee?

Alternatively...

Free to anyone who wants it and can take it away! It predates the digitial switchover though does receive digital channels with an added digital tuner.

I thought old electrical equipment had to be recycled by the supplier of the new. WEEE regulations spring to mind here, but it might only apply to old computers...

Sounds plausible but new one has been purchased through Amazon and I'm sure they won't collect!

Reading this item www.sepa.org.uk/waste/...

I don't think Amazon are exempt from the regulations. And here is Amazon's piece on it www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/...

Julie you could try the British Heart Foundation 0844 417 9010 (6p per minute from BT landline) or online at bhf.org.uk/collection.

They collect unwanted furniture and electricals and offer a complete house clearance service (although they may charge for that).

Then there is always Freecycle but you have to join that.

I think we put ours in the Messenger (for free) and offered it for free.

Thanks Richard for pointing this out. However our TV predates Jan 2007 so I think Amazon's seller is not under obligation to collect it. Interesting to know this WEEE Directive exists though.

Jay, I will try the BHF route - thanks!

Just wanted to recommend to anyone the British Heart Foundation collection service. They have today collected my old TV for no fee, at the agreed time, and with a phone call to say they were on their way!

If you have any unwanted electricals in good working order or furniture in good condition, give them a call! They sell it on to raise funds for their work.

See their website address and phone number earlier on in this thread.

Glad they were able to help you Julie. It's such a waste all these useable things going to the tip.

Now, anyone know where my parents can get rid of a load of videos? They were rejected by Liphook Care this afternoon (after my poor Dad walked all the way there carrying the bag full).
