Christmas Lights
- Richard Randall (6th Dec 2007 - 19:18:04)
Is it me, or do you think our Christmas lights in the village are looking a bit dated and tired.
It looks like some of the bulbs have blown and been replaced with a couple of 40 watt lamps.
I like the look of the ones placed in the trees and I wish more would be put up to give Liphook a real Christmas sparkle.
Perhaps if we all made an effort to put up just one set outside our houses, it would really brighten our Christmas up and make Liphook more attractive for the festive season.

I Love the lights in the square, most of the shops have put loads of lights up as well and the ones in the trees look great.
Merry christmas everybody

My little boy Harry who is 3 comments on how nice and shiny the lights are when they are on. However, he does complain when we go through the village centre in the mornings that somebody keeps turning them off when he has been asleep.
Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas and New Year

Do you all know that the Christmas lights are supplied by Liphook in Bloom and are paid for out of the money from our generous sponsors and this only stretches so far. The team spent all day Sunday checking renewing cleaning ect the lights as we do each year. The men in the team spent most of Monday putting the lights up above the shops in Newtown in the rain. We would welcome new recruits to this voluntary team (as I expect most of you are a lot younger than us) and could then bring with you fresh ideas and more muscle. Anyone wishing to join us in 2008 contact any member of the team or the Parish Office.
Liphook in Bloom wish you all a BLOOMING good Christmas.

Irene
Let me say what a fantastic job you do. Those of us who know how much time, effort and money go into putting on a good show both in the summer and the xmas lights - very much appreciate it. What could you do with extra funding? - perhaps we will never find out.
All the shops that have the garlands with lights, supply and pay for the electricity - some even run others and empty ones just to make the effect better. that doesnt stop them having their own light displays either. In fact Station road looks as good if not better lit than previous years. Hats off to all those who pull their fingers out!
Merry Christmas to ALL Liphook people and Businesses.

(to the person whos son is disappointed that the lights go off - they are the ones run from the street lights - the rest stay on 24/7)

Firstly, Let me apologise to the "Liphook In Bloom" Team, as, I, For one, did not realise that the money for the Christmas lights came out of their budget.
I have nothing but admiration for what they do around the village.
But, For my comment to make front page news in The Liphook Herald, with the headline "Resident gives Liphook in Bloom Team a hard time" beggars belief.
At the time of writing that comment, I did not know who paid for the lights, and it reads that i have offended them. In no way did I intend to offend the Liphook In Bloom Team and nor would I.
I have donated to the team in the past and I would gladly do it again. Maybe an extra couple of quid from the residents, as suggested, would go a long way to help them.
Once again, Liphook In Bloom Team, my apologies.

Once again the 'Liphook Herald' has been shown up for its lack of accuracy in reporting the affairs of the village simply by extracting correspondence from this site without bothering to make contact with the parties concerned.
Add to this the recent reports which were written, and published before the event and you, like me, might reflect on the probity of such reports.
As the voice of the local Conservative Party it fulfills a purpose I suppose but as a credible local newspaper it is becoming increasingly less reliable of late and rarely worth the money.

They probably just read it on here and made up a little story up about it!
Still - I'm happy - it keeps me as official "passfield resident" out of the paper I suppose!

Dawn,
I think you are giving the writers of the article too much praise, they just seem to have copied parts word for word from here and printed it. Really couldn't be bothered to 'do it in their own words'.
It does perhaps explain why in the past things have appeared in the paper, which people have not 'spoken' to the Herald. I have no problem them finding out stories from here, but come on Herald do your own stories - in your own words, and if you want to quote from here, ASK those first!!
