Broadband ADSL
- Liphook.co.uk Editor (23rd Mar 2004 - 14:06:04)
Seeing as Mike brought up the topic of ADSL in the thread below, our main sponsor (who host this site etc) offer Broadband ADSL via http://www.budgetadsl.com from £19.57 + vat per month.
I now use them with a wireless Netgear router (you don't have to use their hardware unlike some ISP's), and get excellent speeds on the 1mb service.
Any support you can give them (mentioning this site) would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Ed. -
I signed up to BT's Business 500 service almost a year ago and am locked into the contract until end April. I have the 576kps speed offer. How much would it cost me for BudgetADSL at 1mb speed?

Hi Freddie,
I've done this a few times, always using the first option ...
If you have another phone line I would recommend installing Budget ADSL on that line, swapping over your modem and away you go ... then just ditch BT on the first line when the contract runs out.
Allow about 7 days for an install, so worth while starting 2 weeks before you can cancel just to be safe.
If you only have the one phone line to work with, it becomes complicated and requires BT to provide you with a special code (known as a CBUK number), which can be hard to get out of them, then the transfer process happens behind the scences but can lead to a few hours downtime on your line.
The first option is the best and recommended route to take ... Budget 1mb then would cost you £40 per month (including VAT), plus a £69.99 (including vat) setup fee. You can just use your old ADSL Router/modem and filters.
If you need any specific help with it, drop me an e-mail :)
Thanks.

Thx, Ed. Will follow your advice. We have 6 lines, so no problem with dropping a few we no longer use much.

Hi Freddie,
Six telephone lines? Does this mean that each of your henhouses needs a telephone line in order for you to call the eggs free range? I hope they are keeping their friends and family numbers up to date. Just make sure that Rocky (Rhodes) The Rhode Island Red is not amongst them.

Mike -
6 lines a hangover from media work and rubbish BT ISDN service that was almost always non-existent.
Definitely time next month to cut back lines and change broadband supplier.
Might see you down the BF later.
kia ora!

Chicken Cam. aaarrghhhhh. There is actually a site in the USA where they have a chicken cam set up to watch eggs hatch - or not. It's otherwise a very informative site but who's going to sit there for hours/days waiting for an egg to hatch....perleeease.
