School kids crossing the roads safely
- steve (28th Jan 2013 - 09:06:09)
Time for a Rant!
To the Bohunt pupil who decided to step out into the road between a van and a car (opposite Inwood Stoves) without looking, it is very lucky you are not lying in A&E after being knocked down. if you cant see the car as the van you are stepping out behind is blocking your view the car won't be able to see you!!!
To the lucky girl listening to head phones stepping out into the road, open your eye and learn the green cross code!
thanks

I have to agree that the school children don't seem to have alot of road sense. It amazes me that for the sake of walking just a few more steps they would rather cross the road on the roundabout by Hampshire's rather than walk to the pedestrian crossing and cross safely.
At such a busy time in the mornings it is difficult to have to stop on a roundabout to avoid hitting a child who just step out into the road without looking or hearing because of their preoccupation with their phones or ipods.
Come on kids use the proper crossing!!

Maybe some railings in the pavement by Lloyds would help. Sooner or later somebody is going to get hurt trying to run between cars in the village.
Common sense has gone out the window.
Also Bohunt should say something to ALL students before it's to late.

I notice very often its adults ignoring crossings and putting themselves and others at risk, sometimes just a couple of metres from a zebra crossing.
Scariest of all, it is often parents with children doing this. Perhaps everyone could do with remembering the green cross code, not just kids :)

Most of us have taught our children how to cross the road from an early age but I am afraid that kids will be kids and not think!! there is too much going on, meeting friends etc. Our kids have to deal with a lot of problems walking in Liphook, narrow roads, three roundabouts, a crossing directly off of one, and a huge amount of traffic going through at that time. I am surprised, and pleased that more accidents have not happened. As a driver going through Liphook at school time I suggest we all be ultra alert to making it safe for them, slow down as you pass them ...wing mirrors are a problem especially on the Haslemere road entering the center Most of all remember their mind is not fully taking in the information at that time of the morning,....probably like a lot of drivers at that time , especially those that don't indicate. But hey that is an other issue........

Steve, a child did get hit last week and taken to hospital in the air ambulance, thankfully he's ok though (see next post)
Hopefully the schools can take this opportunity to remind the children and parents about safety.
Interestingly there's been a lot of recent posts about increasing traffic, bad driving and parking, it seems something needs addressing urgently.
Liphook seems to be getting a lot busier but the roads aren't built for it.

Thankfully I've not had kids step out in front of me but twice I've had men wandering out of the pub and into the road without looking.
Just got to have your wits about you driving around. Go for a drive in Bangkok or Egypt, see some really scarey driving and road crossing.

I have seen lots of adults who cross the road by the roundabout and drunk ones that stand in the middle of the roundabout on a saturday or friday night.
I also saw a Bohunt pupil walked across the road with earphones in and who was looking at her phone and luckily the car was driving slowly but even when the driver stopped and the driver told her what she had done she just had a blank expression on her face.
Schools should be doing more to tackle this issue.
Also some parants could do more to remind children not to look at there phones while they are crossing the road.
Also would like to remind the women driver in 4x4 that you don't stop on a pedestrian crossing to ask for directions and stop the pedestrian from crossing the road!!!! and then look at me like I have done something wrong.
