Bohunt part time schooling?????
- Dawn Hoskins (23rd Nov 2007 - 11:40:37)
Bohunt.
Well, I have been playing a game of parent tag with my husband this week – trying to get home to pick the children up at 2.30 every day.
This total upheaval of working hours is due to teachers needing to talk to their students!!
Is it just me? Or is this TOTALLY mad?
My boys have had no meaningful lessons all week as they have been cut short to unworkable lengths, they have had no additional work set whilst at home and all their teachers are moaning about it because they can’t teach properly within the reduced time constraints.
This shut down has to be taken in addition to the week long disaster for working parents that is the ‘parents consultation day’ No longer the ‘parents evening’ it once was – which allowed both working parents to attend – we now have to take YET MORE time off work – either unpaid or use up holiday time.
Can’t children just go to school anymore? It is hard enough to be taken seriously at work as a mother of 3 children without having to take extra time off every 5 minutes because Bohunt can’t possibly do anything AFTER school!
It makes me so cross that I have to use up all my valuable holiday time for INSET days, Consultations Days and whatever the hell this new thing is! We normal working people only get a few weeks each year – not the whole summer like the teachers do – why should that time be taken away without consulting us first. . . .
Rant..Rant…Rant….

Re: Bohunt part time schooling?????

I'm afraid that these days teachers are expected to play the roles of social worker, carer and councillor and if they have any spare time to actually teach subject matter. One of the OFSTED checkpoints, I remember when my son was in Bohunt, focused on pupil engagement. Remember that this is all about results and someone has decided that this approach will increase pupil motivation and therefore better the results for the pupil and the school. In my opinion, how enthisiastic the pupil is for the subject is directly proportional to how well the subject is taught.
No amount of "1 to 1"s is going to alter pupil motivation except generally in the very short term (like for about 20 minutes afterwards).
