Ice in station forecourt
- Nick Hancock (22nd Jan 2013 - 22:35:51)
Who is responsible for clearing snow and ice in the station forecourt? In this weather we are encouraged to leave the car at home, but if we take the train we risk breaking a leg on frozen slush. The station staff work hard to clear the platforms, but what's the point if you can't reach them safely?

I believe the land is owned by a railway body such as Network Rail and they would be responsible.

Thanks Barbara
Is this something the PC could look into? It's a real hazard for all your constituents.

Whilst Network Rail own the station and, I believe, the forecourt, it is South West Trains that operates the station so it will be their responsibility to keep the approach safe.
I expect it will clear by itself this weekend but if it snows again, try giving them a call.
I don't expect the Parish Council to have any jurisdiction here

I have asked the Parish Office to phone the correct office responsible, and hopefully they will attend to this situation.

Despite the Station forecourt (unlucky Nick) overall I think the road clearing was amazing... I was early for work most days..!! Well done the salt fairies...
