Let the Sainsbury's issue drop please!
- Ruth Hamilton (13th Nov 2007 - 13:56:02)

I used to be a member of staff at Sainsbury's and every time Sainsbury's is mentioned on this website it really gets me annoyed. The staff at Sainsbury's do read this website and I may add that they are all hardworking and are trying to do their best. When Sainsbury's is constantly being knocked it gets a little teadious. The same arguments for and against a big supermarket keep reappearing. The fact is Sainsbury's is in the village for good, the village has to live with it, whether we like it or not. People will boycott establishments over personal views especially when personal views are written about so freely and so openly on websites such as this. I see that as a little silly, but other people are like that! To keep critisizing Sainsbury's is just going to annoy more people thus making customers think again about where they want to shop.

Most of the criticism goes to Sainsburies the organisation not the staff. The store IS a major part of village life so when they do things like actively NOT support something like the Carnival which is also a major part of village life (and has been around a lot longer than they have) then they leave themselves open to criticism!
If they want to be seen as part of the community and not just there to turn a profit then they need to re-assess their approach.

I do agree with you there, but if that is going to be their long term policy, so be it. I don't see how this website and the people who post on it are going to change the minds of Sainsbury's head office.

Ruth

Do you know I too am fed up and sick to death with Sainsbury's. And have tried very hard not to mention them. but by being a very large part of the village, will have people saying rather a lot. We all realise they are here to stay and what ever the head office decide to plonk in there will be their decision. Perhaps you should spend a few days in my shop to hear what the Public are saying, I cant blot them out when people keep referring to them daily.(not good opinions either) If I was a normal shopper i probably too would think like you, but like they are here for good, we too have to live with what they have done for good! But just to satisfy you I will TRY to refrain.

Perhaps you are unaware that we had a meeting with 3 head office people, and store manager, they promised to look at the ranges, and write to us. That was in June. Now so far they have failed to carry out their promise – is that fair.

Perhaps you have given Barbara some good pointers why when you have a business, you do not have full freedom of speech!

To update, Sainsbury’s have in fact given me a boost recently, their bedding section was empty, and their housewares department a complete shambles. People have been buying from me – so go on Sainsbury’s keep it up I LOVE YOU!

Most major companies welcome even negative feedback within reason - hence the number of surveys etc. Local/area management will take notice of local views even if they don't necessarily act on them. I have noticed the absence of youngsters hanging round drinking beer around the doorways and on the benches since that was highlighted on this site. Perhaps just coincidence.

It is not about changing the views of Sainburys - it it about airing your own views and having a discussion about it.

Management decisions should be discussed if they have a negative impact on the village. This does not mean we are having a go at individual staff and anyone who thinks this is taking life far to personally!

I have never had a go at Sainsburys becuase I use the store regularly and therefore I would be rather hyprcrytical to slag them off, but this is a discussion forum and banning issues just because you work for the perpetrator is not a valid reason.

I think the point that I was trying to make in a round about sort of way that this board doesn't seem to be a discussion forum anymore. People get put off posting any other views because they get "shouted down". I do understand why views on Sainsbury's are so vocal, I never asked for a "ban" on the subject, how can I, freedom of speech and all that. It would be nice to have a balanced argument when it comes to Sainsbury's, that's all. I'm sorry if I offended anyone!

Re: Let the Sainsbury's issue drop please!
- Rhys G (13th Nov 2007 - 18:42:47)

Ruth,

To have a 'balanced argument' as you put it, some of the "staff at Sainsbury's [that] do read this website" should express their views too. Without the otherside contributing, with the exception of you, the debate is always going to remain inbalanced.

I give up! I think the point has well and truly been missed!

Re: Let the Sainsbury's issue drop please!
- Chris (14th Nov 2007 - 11:39:28)

I don't think it has Ruth. You think that people should stop criticising Sainsburys; but not everyone agrees with you.

Perhaps you should write to Sainsburys and implore them to be more community spirited and if they agree and show some leanings in this direction then that may just be the best cataylst to turning the tide of poor opinion. It will certainly have a better chance of success than asking the whole of Liphook to give up criticising them.

Somehow, I doubt that they will listen though.

- phil wilson (14th Nov 2007 - 12:59:51)

thank you ruth, support for the store is welcome.

i would imagine that it really hurts colleagues when their place of work is talked about as negatively as it is on this site. And why should they take the time to respond to non-constructive criticism. However much you all feel it is aimed at the company as a whole, that's not how it will be taken in store. They do a fantastic job in Liphook Sainsburys to keep their genuine customers pleased with the level of service that is offered.

Sainsburys has done alot for the community recently. Anyone seen the Under 10s Liphook Football team with their sponsor on the front of the jersey? No, didn't think so!! Two colleagues in the store raised over £350 pounds (sponsorship within store) which was then matched by Sainsburys as a company to enable the team to actually be able to wear a kit this season. If this isn't being active in the Community I don't know what is.

As for you Sue, you just can't help yourself can you?!! Don't want to talk about Sainsburys because you get annoyed blah blah blah. You love it. Do you really think it would be possible to change the range to suit you over night?! It takes time, and seeing as it is approaching the busiest time of the year it probably would not be feasible to satisfy your needs now. I'm sure the company listens to what it's real customers want rather than someone who has nothing constructive to say about the store.

why don't we all just get a life, including myself and let them do their job. Feedback of the likes seen on this site is disheartening and demoralising. Let's stop it now! Keep it up staff of Liphook Sainsburys, you do a great job.

phil.

Hi Phil

Nice to see you back, and good for your comments. Lets not forget that other Businesses (Liphook Hardware), has sponsored the Liphook Football team, but the whole sum was given from our small business. Fundraising or donations from large pots unfortunately, not available. Yes I have had things to say about the store, but I do believe that it is other people who fail to let it drop too

Perhaps to even it up, you and the staff there could also give prasies to us, who do many good things for the local community, Liphook In Bloom, The Carnival raffle, helping one of the Carnival floats with funding, putting up advertisement FREE OF CHARGE, promoting other businesses by having a Free card service, donating to many good causes and charities. We are even going to take the old footie shirts out to the Gambia, for the less fortunate kids to use. There is so much more that we do, perhaps that should be acknowledged.

sue
i can't believe you have enough time in your day now that the shop is so busy to spend trawling through these pages and making comment! obviously not busy enough!

Phil/Ruth

Do you know when the lights down the side of Sainsburys (MIdhurst Road) will be fixed? I know it's probably nothing to do with you but if you work there you could possibly give the management a nudge? They have not worked for three years now since the waist high lights were replaced with 3 lamposts by the Council Office but on Sainsburys land. The lamps were replaced I think as the originals kept getting vandalised - shame they spent the money doing that but can't seem to switch them on!

At night it is pitched black and dangerous to walk.

Thanks

Katy

Phil,

Ha, Ha - just goes to show how clever I am. Perhaps you could put in a word to sainsburys if they are in need of such quick acting and speedy workers!! Seriously, if it is any business of yours on Wednesdays I have cover in the shop.

Re: Let the Sainsbury's issue drop please!
- Sue W (14th Nov 2007 - 23:46:05)

Phil

Just re-read your post, and I have not asked for Sainsburys to change its ranges. (just parts of it would have been something) We all had a meeting back in June to express how the store had caused a NUMBER of other business loss of sales. It was NEVER in my wildest dreams that they would remove it all, just because I asked them too. They listened to us - visited our shops and commented that there were a number of possibilities and areas that they could look at. A confirmation letter would be sent. This was not a recent meeting.

It doesn't hurt to remind someone that we are still waiting.

Good ole Sainsburys, had no diesel when i went to fill up, not a problem if there is a shortage, but a bigger sign would be better. Saw the little one after i had been all round the pumps.
