CAR PARKING AT THE LIBRARY
- Bill Ratcliffe (10th Nov 2007 - 18:11:19)
With the ending of parking next to the library my elderly mother-in-law now has to struggle from the Haselmere Road Car Park. This is abit annoyomg as a perfectly good car park close to the Library remains empty. Any reason why the tax paying public have been banned from the library car park?

This matter was raised at a council meeting recently, and I believe the car park is for staff use only, I imagine that in the past if staff had a problem parking then they too would have had to find somewhere else. With regards to the elderly and disabled, have youtried asking the staff whether there is still space for the disabled to park or is it a key on the gate now?

Barbara, thank you for your reply. The library car park mostly stands empty when I visit the library. I have not noticed any disabled parking signs on the gate.

How many staff does the library have that require exclusive use of the car parking spaces?

This really does take the biscuit! Not only do we seem to have a library that is never open when I want to go (as you know the world does revolve around me sometimes!), but in addition to this – when it is actually serving the public – they can’t use the car park?
What is going on in peoples’ heads when they make these sorts of decisions???
Considering that the majority of their patrons are the elderly – it is outrageous that they make an already rather poor (re: opening hours) provision even harder to access!
Can someone who made up this rather discriminatory (re: elderly & disabled) rule stick their head above the parapet and give us an answer please………
