- ellen (8th Nov 2007 - 19:43:16)

Hi All

Having adopted our beautiful ragdoll cat from pet protection down the road 2 yrs ago we are now looking to adopt a westie...have looked on the net for rescue centre's but wonder if anyone had any idea if there is one near by that I might have missed? Oh yes our cat loves dogs no problem there!

Many tks

Ellen -

I've had Westies in the past and you might like to ponder that a terrier will not necessarily like cats.

Westies tend to have minds of their own - like all terriers - and they can also be quite vocal in defending their territory. One Westie I had loved nothing better than cornering foxes and hedgehogs in the garden at night. He'd pick up hedgehogs and thrown them into the air. Foxes he'd fight.

If you do find a suitable dog, I'd introduce the cat and dog very slowly and carefully.

Good luck.

Thanks everso for your advise and the websites.

Yes, I do agree re terriers but we did find that our last terrier..not a Westie though! was great with our other cat only I think because the dog was a very young puppy when we bought him home so I guess he got used to the cat....I will be very careful...many tks.. bit worried about the wild animals though being hurt! as we have squirrals rabbits robins occasional deer etc...so he will have to be very well trained! bit difficult with terriers though as this is their nature... maybe I should think of another breed.

X
