Two weeks post carnival
- Harry (8th Nov 2007 - 12:38:28)

What a great job my kids are still talking about it, but I was dismayed to find out this week that when approached Sainsburys refused to support this event.

I find this outrageous and if true as I'm sure it is will be taking my business elsewheres.

Maybe just maybe that summarises the view of this large corporate monster of the beautiful village we all live - give us your money but expect nothing in return !

I think that perhaps it is the same for 'Liphook in Bloom', I seem to recall one organiser saying this - but under the new rules - perhaps i cant say it?. Anyone agree/disagrees.

I'd imagine it's because access to this iconic store is restricted during carnival hours owing to the road closures thus limiting their turnover and profit margins on the night.

It didn't stop them selling alcohol to all and sunder which led to the Police closing them early.

It would seem that the only way they supported the carnival was in fact to see the alcohol fuelled punters trashing the village.

Profits before all else.

just in case you haven't read previous threads about the Carnival, Sainsburys actually stopped selling alcohol at 5pm. The irresponsible retailers were actually The Co-Op who continued to sell booze despite the Police requesting them not to do so. Get your facts straight.
