Traffic, commute times.
- Robert (16th Jan 2013 - 16:27:37)
Hi there. My wife and kids and I are hopefully moving to Liphook in a few months time and I'm wondering about commute times. I am going to be moving my business out of London once I've moved and am thinking about maybe the Guildford area. The thing is other than my rushes down the A3 to catch ferries and back up on a Sunday night I have no idea what sort of time it takes to get from Liphook to Guildford on a weekday morning in the rush hour. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Hi Robert
I think you will enjoy life in Liphook. The commute to Guildford by car can be around 15/20 minutes. BUT there are regular accidents where the A31 joins the A3 just south of Guildford. On those days expect 60 / 90 minutes or more.
It would be safer to relocate your business south of Guildford, in Liphook itself or Petersfield area.

Wow Alan I'd like to commute with you to Guildford if you can do it in 15/20 minutes at morning peak, I must be doing something wrong.
When I go north I leave Liphook at about 7.15am and would say I'm normally getting to the Guildford exits around 7.45am if no accidents or incidents.
I'd agree, Robert, that you'd have a much better life/work balance if you located your business in or around Liphook.
Good luck and welcome to Liphook when you arrive.

I travel to Guildford at various times normally about 20 mins to hospital junction so middle of town 30 mins top UNLESS an accident then who knows
Do you have to travel as rush hour if your business why not start earlier or later to miss it if yo can?
Just because most start work at that time do you need to , all depends on your type of business.
Being self employed I make my hours to order but thats just me
Saying that Liphook is great been here 43 years great comunity spirit coast in 30 mins london An hour 2 airports in about an hour 5 mins your in the woods mainline station
Nice little village

I agree that in non-peak times you could reach Guildford in 20mins. However, from experience of leaving at around 7:15am you can expect frequent slow moving congestion from the Royal Surrey Hospital to the Compton junction on the A3.

Thanks guys, I will try and miss rush hour if possible, when is the traffic worst? I might be doing it on a motorcycle anyway which eases the traffic issues slightly.
I can\'t move too far down the A3, one of my managers lives in North Kent, so I don\'t want to move too far out of the way for him. He reckons it takes him about an hour and a half or so most days up to Elephant and Castle where the office is, so I\'m aiming to be within that as a commute time for him. Haven\'t found suitable premises yet though so going to be training up to London for a bit anyway. Any ideas? I need a small office (4 desks) and about 50m2 of warehouse/stores. An old barn conversion or something would be perfect.
