Bohunt Sports Facilities
- Jeremy (9th Jan 2013 - 07:20:38)
Having used the all weather pitch at Bohunt for many years,it has to be said how poor it has all become, surface rubbish, nets rubbish, you name it,it's poor.
Liphook has a fantastic school, surely it's not always about science labs, computers etc!
I would like my children to enjoy good sporting facilities,it's not always about sitting behind a desk, come on all you kind governors, look at the bigger picture!

It doesn't reflect well on the school, if they aren't maintaining the facilities is there a deeper problem?
I agree sport is all too often overlooked in league tables and is a vital part of a balanced school curriculum.
It's probably about resourses but I hope they can get on top of it, would be interesting to hear Bohunt's reply.

Having worked as a PE teacher in the state sector at a school equivalent to Bohunt, I would imagine from previous experience, it is probably due to a lack of funding.
I am not sure how the academy status affects the funding, but as we were a good school, we received far less money than other local 'failing' schools, who had money ploughed into them and sports facilities that were brilliant that the pupils didn't use.
We suffered with awful facilities, looked after by a tireless team, used by children that were highly motivated and won many of the local school competitions in sport, despite by far and away the worst facilities.
I would imagine the Bohunt facilties are well used by the pupils and that they and the staff would love better facilities and more funding to improve them. (we played Bohunt in a tennis match over 8 years ago and their courts were bad then) It would also be great for the community users too. But sadly PE and sport are not high on the list of funding in schools, and the subject is not always respected as it should be.
It is not always up to the schools where money gets allocated to and with all the cut backs they probably have to spend the money elsewhere.

But don't the local football clubs and adult 5 a-sides pay to use the astro turf for training? What do the school do with that money?
There again, they have just had the sports hall all done out so they are investing in something that allows physical education. Probably better the money is spent indoors given our current climate!
