Arson opposite Countrywide
- NMG (2nd Jan 2013 - 22:08:44)

What is Liphook coming to? This building needs demolishing and the eyesore hoarded fully. Planning or no planning this needs to be enforced by EHDC.

there goes the free parking to all the commuters to London as that area was crammed with cars parking there every day .

Re: Arson opposite Countrywide

Why should commuters enjoy free parking at the expense of a land owner?

Commuters generally like to work in London due to the higher salaries. They should be able to pay for their parking instead of effectively squatting illegally on land owned by someone else.

How would you like commuters parking on your driveway?

Therefore there is a classic case of trying to have the best of both worlds.

If you work in London, think of the environment, and move to London, and ideally walk to work.

A building near the centre of the village is burned to the ground at considerable risk to nearby property owners not to mention firefighters and police. And what is Liphook commenting on? Parking!!

In reply to Liz, the comments made in no way undermine the risk to neighbouring property or persons, or indeed the wonderful job that our firefighters do.

The comments actually have been on the repercussions of the arson attack, and the fact that now that the building is in such a dangerous state, that it should be fully hoarded, (not fenced) and ideally demolished so that there is no further risk. The parking comments followed on from the main subject.

I believe that Breeze FM reported that a suspect was being questioned.

I wonder how the planning application for the redevelopment of the site will now be considered?

I apologise if my comments are not relating to original comment but the comments made about if you work in London move there I feel is an unfair comment to make. Yes salaries may be higher but by the time you take out extra tax and expenses you are not much better off! Also people accept jobs further afield because there is nothing suitable locally and also the cost of moving to an area where everything is more expensive (property being the main one!) is a good reason for commuting. Getting a job on your doorstep is not easy especially for professional people so rather than critisise maybe more understanding is needed. People could think well no jobs nearby so I wont work but they dont they work further away to have an income.
A little more thought before making such comments would be more appreciated.
Thank you.

NMG. Your initial comments did refer to boarding up - but the comments soon degraded into the parking issue.

The parking is a different issue of course, but a valid one nonetheless. Maybe it should have its own thread but let's just hope people don't complain that they have lost something - and rather be pleased/grateful that they had it for the time they did.
