- PRC Helen (28th Oct 2007 - 09:14:19)

As I am up stupidly early this morning I thought that I would start a thread about how fantastic the Carnival was last night...

The floats were brilliant...Shelia's Wheels my personal favourite!

My children loved every minute of it so a great time all round!

Just wanted to add my thanks to the Carnival Committe and all who took part for such a brilliant job this year. I know they put in a huge amount of work all year for this one night. I was surprised to discover how few people get all this done and how much it relies on good will from Police and others to take place at all. Great success again this year. All the floats were brilliant and all involved had clearly put in huge amounts of work. Well done to all.

Yes I would also like to add to the postings here to say what a fab night! The floats were really good this year...and the crowds seemed pretty big too! Well done to all involved in the preparation before the day and on the night...we should count ourselves lucky to be living in a place with such a good community spirit!

This year’s carnival was excellent. Everybody involved with helping to create their floats should be proud that they have contributed to something that has been long running in the village.

The carnival committee deserve a huge ‘well done’ from everybody in and around the village. They work tirelessly to organise the event through the year (and every year), not just for a week or two before the big night. Karen F - well done for chairing the event.

The Liphook Guides & Brownies won their category this year in their section and we would just like to thank all of the helpers, parents, volunteers et al… that assisted with the float building this year.

It was very refreshing to see so many new faces assisting with painting / decorating / building the carnival float, a very big thank you to all of you. You all know your individual contributions so well done.

It’s difficult to single out people individually for their contributions this year, but a huge thanks should be given to Mary, Craig & Trevor who directed the show and made the Guides / Brownies entry what it was.

People not involved really won’t appreciate the amount of time and effort given before and after the carnival - yes, the rest of their Saturday evening and most of Sunday to tidy up.

So an extra thanks and well done to everybody involved with the Guides / Brownies float, organising the dancing, the decoration, the costumes and everything else throughout the last few weeks/months. In the end it was so well deserved.

Here’s to next year - lets hope we all again enjoy it as much as this year.

Wonderful show! So imaginative.

Where can I buy some umbrellas like the ones they used on 'Phill's'?

Clive B, and all other well wishers

Many thanks for all the thanks and wishes for the Guides and Brownies float.

We (the Parents in Guiding Suppprt - PIGS) started this year helping with the Carnival float because, due to work commitments, cannot give continuous time throughtout the year to the Guides and Brownie organisation. We (PIGS) admire the continuous commitment given by the Guiders and Brownie and Rainbow leaders each week, year in and year out. For that reason, a few weeks each year seems to be the least we can do to support them. As Clive said, many parents turned up in the week to help and support us, and the float wouldn't have been ready without their help - many, many thanks !!!

We have run events this year (the car treasure hunt and the girls disco evening) to raise money to improve the lighting on the float, and hopefully, those who saw the carnival will agree, we certainly lit up the parade !!!

If anyone would like to join PIGS - please don't be shy, any contribution of help would be appreciated - and telephone me on 723492 anytime.

Our first thanks go to the Guide, Brownie and Rainbow leaders, who supported everything that PIGS suggested, but our biggest thanks this year, of course, goes to each and every girl who took part (and those who were too ill on the day), they were amazing !!! The Brownies and Guides were still enthusiastic coming back into the square after keeping going for some 2 and a half hours !!!

Looking forward to next year !!!!

PIGS

Mary W

With the lack of replies to your question of the colourful brollies - I know some of them were purchased from Liphook Hardware....

Fantastic carnival this year. Terrific organisation and lots of hard work from everyone to give the village this terrific event. Thanks to all the Committee and all the other helpers, marshalls, etc. who turn up every year to do their bit.
