Winter fuel money - Steve wilson (21st Nov 2025 17:47:34)
I think it's brilliant my friend doesn't need the £200 paid to retired people so donated the money to Liphook food bank they then get gift aid so ended up with £250 😊 hope there are more people that are able to do the same.

Sounds wonderful and all due respect to your friend.
In my case DWP have recently sent me £200 but, as I understand it, they will decide if I am entitled to it when I submit my next self assessment tax return............ ie some time after receiving it!!
If they decide I'm not entitled, it will be reclaimed through my tax liability next time around.
I'm currently wondering if I should bill DWP and HMRC £200 for doing the rest of their job I wasn't already doing before this happened. If so, would I be able to claim tax relief as charity giving?
Advice please?

Presumably with the lifting of the two child benefit cap and all of Mr Starmer's new school breakfast clubs, demands on all food banks should drop off significantly. But will the food bank demographic now shift from Vicki Pollard and her six kids by six different men to pensioners and hard working people who are being taxed even more.

I’m with you D would have been much better to have given the pensioners a good rise in their pensions as well as the winter fuel allowance. Instead of giving more benefits to single mothers what I can’t understand is where are the fathers.

The ones I know have left Vicky and Waynetta to go and reproduce elsewhere like feral rats. It really pleases me to know that as well as struggling to pay a mortgage on the minimum wage I'm paying for them so they can live rent free.

This government is completely out of touch with reality. More and more benefits to those that haven’t contributed to the system. The ones that work hard and scrimp and save are being hit the hardest they should have cut benefits especially to those that have never worked as for child benefit if you have children then it’s your job to look after them if you are unable to do that then don’t have children. Single mothers are actually not single unless the father has died. As someone else said where are the fathers . This government has gone potty.

I agree absolutely, Tax Payer. The first female chancellor is a disaster. This trend of appointing people on their gender or ethnicity rather than the best person for the job just doesn't work.
Re: Winter fuel money - Pensioner (29th Nov 2025 14:44:22)
Most pensioners have to be very frugal with their income. But I see young girls with children obviously single hair all done nails aglow nice clothes latest mobile phone etc . Something is drastically wrong in this country the government seems to not have a clue as to what’s going on . The only way to get this country back on its feet is to cut benefits to the bone and no hand outs to illegal migrants they should be sent straight to back to France. It’s time this government pulled up the draw bridge stop subsidising the rest of the world. People that have served this country living on the streets this government should be ashamed of themselves.
