Paranormal activity at the Royal Anchor ?
- paul (4th Nov 2025 - 16:10:49)

Hi,

According to history a Highwayman/Smuggler, called Captain Jacques still haunts the establishment in the Square.

Staff have witnessed his presence, late night, wearing a cloak and tricorn hat.
During his time locally, he hid contraband at Bramshott Church. Unfortunately for him, he was shot dead by Excisemen.

Anyone locally experienced odd events, maybe we do come back?

I think there was a thread on this a few years ago, my grandmother used to tell me room 6 is haunted.

Can you still stay at the anchor or are the upstairs bedroom rooms kept empty?

Wow, does this mean there is a God too? Should we all be in church this Sunday?😂

Well if there truly is a ghost then he's done a great job of scaring people away. Every time I go past the pub it looks completely empty.

Paul, I do believe Liphook and surrounding area is an area of "heightened paranormal activity". That is what drew the likes of George Bernard Shaw, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Boris Karloff here.

Yes, Local, I do go to church. I hope you don't have a problem with that.

I heard the ghost also leaves 5 star TripAdvisor reviews.

How strange that I was literally just re-reading some of Adam Carew’s book “Ghosts of East Hampshire” only last night. Lots of local ghosts (around Bramshott in particular) mentioned there including Captain Jacques.

I’d definitely be interested in finding out more about the various apparitions!

Is this ghost responsible for the post box being out of use outside the Millennium Hall? We thought someone might have put something nasty into it. We await the denouement.

Hi Lorac,

I believe the end of the Postbox outside the Millennium Centre, is a Royal Mail Ghost change.

The location will become a Drop-off, and Collection boxes facility instead.

With Royal Mail starting in England in 1660, there maybe many past Posties in our village, living as Ghosts.

The post boxes are all being changed they will have solar powered units on the top and will be a drop off point for small parcels and there will still be a separate compartment to post letters.
