Carnival committee
- Jezz (26th Oct 2025 07:20:11)
I just want to say a huge thank you to the carnival committee for organising a great carnival last night. I thought some of. Your new fresh ideas were brilliant including the commentary of the carnival in station road which brought in many more people. I really appreciate all the effort that goes into running it.
As someone who took part it was lovely to see all the smiling faces of everyone having a really good time. A really good effort of all the people who took part. Thank you for keeping an old tradition going.

I rarely post here.
Just wanted to say that you and people like you are the reason we do it ðŸ™
I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Here's to many more.
Kind regards
Maybe a committee member, maybe not (as not to excite the naysayers)

Yes I second that the carnival committee should be very proud to have put on the night carnival again. This little community of ours have managed to buck the trend of carnivals disappearing think we are the only ones still going around here for miles, the big one at Bridgewater Somerset is mind boggling but I think that’s the only other one so liphook should take pride in your achievements. Long may it continue and it’s free entertainment.

I agree.
I was driving the Liphook in Bloom float and it was obvious from a driving perspective that the detailed planning of the event enabled it to be enjoyed by the many spectators.

I can think of a few Russ - there is the internationally famous one in Lewes East Sussex and there is also one in Ringwood Hampshire which has one afternoon procession and then one more in the evening.

Didn’t know of those Joe but that’s good must try and go and see them. Been to Bridgewater it’s just unbelievable. We must try and keep ours going though this year it was definitely an improvement getting back to as it was but it’s the same with everything things change people get old and it looses some momentum but think things are getting there the new people on the committee new ideas must be good. The community should get behind them and support their ideas their the ones giving up their time for liphook thanks.

I read there's also a great buzzing one 45 miles away in a place called Notting Hill Gate!

Having worked on the carnival committee for many years I can confirm that last night's was one of the most successful for many years. There were more floats, many from new groups, and the procession was
most appreciated by the crowds at the London Road side of the square.
If I had one small niggle it would be that the commentary whilst being loud and effusive when the floats approached the commentary box outside Lloyds Bank, was barely audible at the other end of the square.
I applaud the marshals in the way they laid out safety barriers, road signs and cones, and promptly removed them at the end of the procession The utilities would do well to appreciate the effective vehicle management instead of coning off sections of the road and leaving them up for long after the job has been finished, or in some cases started!

7th oldest in the UK... 1902! WOW!
Now I'm not saying Mr Paul Robinson was there for the very first carnival, heaven forbid 😅
He lived in Liss at the time so couldn't make it. 🤣🤣
Of course I'm joking Paul, thank you for your service to the carnival.

Very interesting that we are 7th on the list . Just wondering how many are still running, Bridgewater yes and us wonder if Paul could tell us . If all the others have gone we would be second still running what a feather in the cap for our committee and liphook. As we are such a small village it’s just amazing and I think it’s gaining strength again marvellous.

I wasn't able to be at The Carnival but I am so glad it was a great success.
Driving through Liphook Sunday afternoon I was really impressed with the tidiness of Liphook after such a big event. So big thanks to those who cleared up any litter and a big thank you to, I am sure, the majority who did not litter.
So well done everyone - Liphook is a great village.

I see the men clearing the barriers on my walk early Sunday, what a horrible job on a Sunday and doing it as volunteers also. I take my hat off to them.
One of the committee lives at the end of my road and she said that only 6 people turned up for the clean up - 5 of which were on the committee. I see the call for help on facebook and I am so sorry I didn't make the time :'( 6 people clearing up all that mess then we come here to just clap at them and say well-done. I will change that next year for sure!!!
This is a community event afterall.
Not a dig - Just an observation.
