Lowsley Farm Nature Reserve Bins Keep Being Left Full
- AnnoyedWalker (30th Mar 2025  18:48:52)

Most of the time I go for a walk up at Lowsley Farm nature reserve, the bins are usually overflowing with dog poo bags. It seems they aren't emptied enough, leading to the bins overflowing and dog poo bags ending up on the ground. The bins being full may also encourage people to litter and potentially harm any wildlife that may try to eat it.

Who is reponsible for these bins and why aren't they emptied more often if they keep filling up so often?

The dog poo bins should be removed. Anyone who is fit enough to take a dog out for a walk is perfectly capable of taking the dog's excrement home with them and disposing of it there.

You'll be surprised where I've seen dog poo bags thrown/left there, I usually pick them up and put them in the bin where there is room.

I really hope it begins to be managed better as it really could be a decent refuge for local wildlife here.

Agree with Jen. Dog walkers should be responsible for their own dog's pooh and take it home. I have always thought that it is wrong to expect someone to empty bins full of dog pooh.

Totally agree with Jen and Charlie people that own dogs should be responsible you didn’t have dog bins years ago. Why expect someone else clear your dog’s Pooh up and take it away. Be responsible.

Could say the same about McDonalds users

Maybe the council should cancel bin collections from houses too and make us all recycle/reuse/compost all our own waste.

Public bins are provided for the use of the public, pet owner also fall into this category, providing a bin at least encourages people to pick it up and throw it away.

I am not sure but I do not think the poo bin at Lowsley is emptied by the council I think it is the responsibility of the estate.

DS I am assuming your post is not a serious one. If it is then all I would say to you is that the bins at our properties for general and recycling waste are not filled with bags of human excrement. Plus the fact the bin collectors NEVER touch the waste as the bins are emptied mechanically.

There are many responsible dog owners but there are a few (as always the few spoil it for the many) who are not only irresponsible – you only have to see the amount of filled dog pooh bags lying on footpaths, in the bushes or hanging in trees to know that this is the case - but there are some who are entitled and think the world revolves round them and their dogs.

A few examples: dogs out of control not on leads, dogs that jump up at complete strangers and sometimes bite them, dogs that are allowed to approach other dogs sometimes agressively and very often when the other dogs are on their leads. Dog owners have a duty of care for their dogs, the public and livestock including other dogs.

Joe it doesn’t matter who is responsible for emptying dog pooh bins. No one should be asked to do this. It is a disgusting job and even more so in the summer with smell and flies making matters worse. Dog’s pooh is the responsibility of the owner.and should be taken home.
