TU Brand Clothing finished at Liphook Sainsburys.
- paul (17th Mar 2025 11:55:10)
Hi,
Is this a great loss to women and children, of no TU Clothing for sale at our local Sainsburys? Must be more profit in food offerings.

Hi,
Apparently the new area is going to be more " Health and Beauty" products. Therefore, Liphook shoppers will look more attractive!

Worth remembering the Sainsburys is a business and not a community centre, everything they do will be decided by how much profit they can make.

The reason why Tu clothing has been removed is because it is available through the new Argos in store outlet.
The Health and Beauty is moving but remaining the same size.
The frozen and chilled food offer is being expanded.
I believe also there may be increases in bakery goods, vegetables and off-sales.

From an email from Sainsburys...
Iâm writing to update you that over the coming weeks we are working to undertake a range of refurbishment and improvement works at some of our stores including Sainsburyâs Liphook. As a valued customer, I wanted to let you know the store will remain open as usual during this time and we are expecting these changes to be complete by 25/04/2025.
To make shopping with us as easy and convenient as possible, weâll be updating the layout and product ranges, offering an even greater choice of products at outstanding value.
Weâre making changes to have the right products in place at the right moment for our customers, providing even more products we know our customers love.
Whether it be popping in to grab a delicious bite to eat or topping up on essentials, we want all our customers to look forward to and enjoy each visit to our stores. Thatâs why we are planning to transform our Liphook store, providing an increased range of delicious products so that thereâs more to look forward when you shop there.
Colleagues will be hand to support while everyone gets used to the new layout and there will also be signs in store to help find your favourite product as it might have moved.
As part of our refurbishments in the store, specific upgrades that you can look forward to include:
A new layout and clearer signage to make it much easier to find what you want
Improved, extended product choice with ranges that are more tailored to what our customers are looking for
We remain committed to minimising any disruption the refurbishment works may cause and appreciate your support and patience while we carry out this work.
We look forward to welcoming everyone to our new and improved Sainsburyâs Liphook in the coming months.
Best wishes,
Patsy Farr
Store Manager

Hi,
Whatever the commercial reasons; of Sainsburys Liphook, not stocking TU clothing, online at Argos is not the same.
Shoppers like to see, touch, and feel garments before purchase.
A poor decision for it's customer base, by it's management.

I'm disappointed the clothes have gone from Sainsbury's. I would buy a lot of stuff TU.
Clearer signage wouldn't be needed if things were kept in the same place lol. It's a marketing tactic to move things around to get a customer to buy other things while looking for what they actually want. At the end of the day though, they are a business and will do whatever is needed to maximise profit

Sainsbury's isn't big enough or they'd probably do a lot more, for a growth town we probably need a big out of town supermarket nearer the A3, there are still places down Longmoor where they could put one, if we're going to get thousands of new homes in the next decade or two we should be planning ahead now.

Argh! Just when I had almost learned where everything is within the store, they're going to mix it up and change everything around! I shall be wandering even more aimlessly around the aisles now! đ

Hi,
I understand Supermarkets wanting to "mix things up", with their presentation; and marketing; of to their stores to their customers.
A few years ago, (pre-pandemic), professional studies had found shoppers preferred a same layout that they were familiar with..
They spent more; rather than wandering around guessing where items were now displayed, even with signage.
Not rocket science, as the "customer comes first"

My Nector vouchers today included a ÂŁ4 discount for Tu clothing. Lucky me!

I don't believe the clothes shopping in the store was ever really used as most people shop in Guildford for good quality fashionable clothing.

I think many people in the village would disagree with that view. One of the issues was that some sizes were so popular that they sold out and Sainsbury's never seemed to regularly replenish these. It was very handy for many people, particularly those who werenât able to get to the larger towns.
In any case, most town centres were decimated during Covid and have never really recovered, Guildford included.

- Local (26th Mar 2025 09:46:36)
The cost of getting to Guildford and other places makes it not viable. And the shops are so expensive not everyone can afford the prices in some of the so called designer shops. The clothes in sainsburys was a good thing for local people reasonably priced good value so another loss for liphook.

You will still be able to get the TU brand in the Godalming Sainsburyâs and they have a changing room as well. If you cannot get there then you can order the clothes from Argos to be collected in Liphook. Not the same I know.

Thanks Joe but unsurprisingly I don't think I'll bother! It was just the irony of the thing that amused me.

I to got a store voucher for Tu clothing yesterday - 900 extra points when you spend ÂŁ30 - but ONLY VALD INSTORE - when i mentioned this to a member of staff saying rather unfortunate as they now didn't have clothing in store now- just laughed. - Not really very satisfactory.

Re: TU Brand Clothing finished at Liphook Sainsburys.
- Michael Smith (30th Mar 2025 09:27:14)
We had the same voucher, have messaged Sainsburys to ask what is the point of "900 extra points when you spend ÂŁ30" when the next nearest store is Alton,
they need to set these vouchers to actually be for stuff "Stocked" in store... like giving you petrol offers but no station..,
-----
Sadly feels like this Sainsburys store is getting worse by the year.
------
have to say this.. the Staff 99% are really amazing and helpful, many been there for many many years and always helpful.

To Sainsburys; no no no, you do not have any concern for customersâ needs, all this so called improvement is purely for profit and nothing else.
If a larger store is built in Bordon people will go there, hopefully for clothing.

Re: TU Brand Clothing finished at Liphook Sainsburys.
- Not a local (2nd Apr 2025 17:04:49)
The new Bordon Sainsbury's will be 16,000 square feet where as Liphook Sainsbury's is 27,000 square feet. So it will not be bigger. Very much doubt there will be clothes. Doubt there will be much choice either.

Replying to all the articles re Sainburyâs ending TU clothing, it is to be hoped, though unlikely, that Sainsburyâs will not buy fish that is sourced through Russian fleets. I am always amazed at the variety of fish in other countries, in their fish markets, but we here have a real paucity of fish choices. Come on Salisbury, now that you have a âbiggerâ store how about being more adventurous with fish products. I would buy more fish than beauty products!! Liphook residents are already beautiful and donât need enhancement!

From what I've seen recently, judging by the amount of aisle space now allocated, it appears that Liphook shoppers are deemed by HQ to be a bunch of alcoholics who subsist mainly on crisps, crunchy snacks, sweets, chocolate, coffee, tea, biscuits and cakes!
Thankfully, they also decided to continue selling some items of actual food as well!

I agree I was astounded looking at how much space is given up to crisps biscuits and soft drinks. No wonder the Health Service is in crisis mode.

Jen and Joe
I completely agree! I couldnât believe the space dedicated to crisps . And why do we need a coffee vending machine ??
No one on the tills when I shopped the other day either . Hey ho. Iâm writing this as I sit in my car in Tescos car park after having a nice chat with the cashier on the till đ

Presumably this junk food has a higher profit margin for Sainsburys.

Sainsburyâs have both a massive computer and many years of Liphook customers previous purchasing data and both those say, these people buy more crisps and booze than clothes.
Essentially the computer is giving us exactly what we want whilst maximising the stores profit, and profit they need to pay for the investment in more self check outs to replace the expensive staff etc.
