Ukraine Convoy
- Simon Cooper (28th Mar 2022 - 10:18:56)
Dear Friends and Neighbours,
It was an 8 day round trip, 8 trucks, Over 120 tonnes of Food/Medical Aid valued at just over £1m, delivered and all returned safely.
In seeking to do something for the people of Ukraine, rather than "reinvent the wheel", I chose to go with Yorkshire Aid Convoy, a Leeds based charity of 25 years experience of such trips to Eastern Europe. There were16 volunteers from all walks of life, most of whom had never met before.
Despite our ferry cancellation with P&O, we headed off via the tunnel, arriving at night at a Ukraine collection centre. Air raid sirens had sounded a couple of times and as I sat in the truck for an hour on a bridge out of a 1960's spy movie, I wondered why the Russians don't blow it up. Slow moving shooting stars turned out to be cruise missiles from a ship in the Black Sea, which we later learned struck 200km away.
Working through the night to unload, in the early hours we turned to head for home. Fuel rationing across Europe and the 5hr wait for the tunnel were annoying, but finally we made it back to Blighty.
So with your help we delivered Food and Medical Aid right to the heart of where it is needed most. Government advice is to donate to the big charities or DEC. Although it is Yorkshire Aid Convoy, its volunteers are from all over and it was a great privilege to have joined them.
The next trip is being planned as I write. I know it is a lot to ask but it is hard to raise around £4000 for each truck. I'm going again as soon as we are ready.
If you can, please consider supporting YAC. Every little helps enormously.

I did forget to add....
A big thank you to all those who kindly supported the first run.
As I left Ukraine and handed in my convoy ticket to the soldiers, one was in a flood of tears, emotional at the support from UK, people he didn't know and didn't know him.
From first hand I can tell you, it really means an awful lot.

Well done Simon and all in your convoy and logistical back up. Perhaps a silly question, but we seem to have several pairs of crutches from various broken limbs over the years. Is there anywhere you can suggest we can drop these off to be used in Ukraine?

Bob, your information is now not correct! Their accounts are logged albeit 51 days late, however what is the purpose of your post?

Bob,
Thank you for your post. But what is the purpose?
Are you calling me a liar? Are you suggesting that YAC is stealing?
I do hope you haven't gone further than simply troll incognito on here.
Yorkshire truckers are great people until provoked.
Perhaps you would volunteer for the next run. Come and see for yourself how big boys play in Ukraine.

Simon, I'm now confused by your reply to Bob's confusing post
You state "Yorkshire truckers are great people until provoked"? how is this relevant with Bobs post? What are you meaning?

Thank you Finchie.
The main warehouse and drop off points are all getting filled again. Even Trading Standards is a donor.
The next run is getting closer.
