Awful curry! - C (25th Feb 2022 - 20:21:08) This is a #firstworldproblem (or rather moan) but just had a takeaway curry from Madhuban in the village for the first time. I really want to support local business but it was awful! Is it actually popular? I’ll eat anything and even I couldn’t stomach it. Did we just catch it on a bad day??

Re: Awful curry! - liz (25th Feb 2022 - 20:44:41) C I think you got them on a bad day. In the past ( Pre covid) the food could be variable but more recently we have had some excellent meals from them. Perhaps worth speaking to them? xx

Re: Awful curry! - Sc (26th Feb 2022 - 18:01:32) We gave up after a couple of awful takeaways from them. Cold and undercooked. Very disappointing and unpalatable. We prefer to drive to Grayshott for our Indian takeaway, from the Bayleaf. Delicious takeaway food and I recommend a meal in the restaurant too. I have never tasted such incredible Indian food.

Re: Awful curry! - Lou Rouller (26th Feb 2022 - 22:19:55) If you lot can’t. I suggest Charlie Bigham curry. it’s cheaper than takeaway and much nicer . Never had a stomach issue. Had a few trots with takeaway slop. Especially takeaway vans with poor hygiene. Where do they go to the loo? In the bushes I presume.

No accountability or burden of proof needed, looking forward to another empty premises in the village! Just look at the petrol fiasco last year to see the devastating power of social media. Perhaps didn’t cross your mind to directly confront your concerns with the management! For all we know you could simply be a rival takeaway looking to cause mischief. (Just remember the florist fiasco a few years ago where the editor established a bad review post like this and subsequent posts of support proved to be the same person)

I ate at this place last night for the first time in the 8 years I lived in Liphook, not because of these comments but in spite of them. and there was nothing wrong with it, we ordered 4 different dishes and whilst I was jealous of what some of the rest of us picked I have to say all of it was decent and we will go back again. Throwing these sorts of negative comments about on forums like this are extremely damaging to small businesses.

Re: Awful curry! - Penny Williiamson (27th Feb 2022 - 18:49:16) I agree with the posters who say that this is not the Forum on which to complain about businesses, particularly the smaller ones. Even if the said business read about the complaints there is very little they can do about them remotely. They don't even know who you are. Susan there is no need to spoil a long awaited family get together by complaining as there are ways of complaining.. The pleasant and the unpleasant. I very rarely complain but when I do it is with good reason and I try to do it in a respectful and polite manner. This has always worked for me.

Re: Awful curry! - C (28th Feb 2022 - 08:22:20) *sigh. Firstly I started this post so don’t have a go at Susan. Secondly, I think you’ll find I was seeking local opinion. Thirdly, would you prefer I made my comments on tripadvisor where I believe the audience is somewhat wider than a local community forum?! I don’t think one comment from me is going to bring down a business. And quite honestly, if they’re that bad, I’d rather they were replaced by another eatery. I find other people’s opinions on local services very useful-doesn’t mean I boycott somewhere because someone has had a bad experience. Shall we all just move on (somehow, I doubt it!)

Yes, it could have been hotter but it is a takeaway! Food has been excellent every time and the staff are the most polite and helpful I've come across. Keep up the good work guys. Jim

Just pointing out that you do not have to be unpleasant or cause an awkward situation if you complain if the complaint is made in a polite and respectful manner. Just a polite suggestion. If I ran a business I would rather the dissatisfied customer directed his or her concerns directly with my company and myself rather than anonymously post on this website. I think businesses should always be given the chance to improve if that is what is needed.

I can’t eat hot food even Sunday roast my wife normally is nearly finished before I can start but that’s how it is as for hot spicy food no no. All down to taste. But if the food was badly cooked then you should go and complain to the company so they have a chance to but it right if then you get no joy then put your complaint to trading standards. A last resort on here.

Re: Awful curry! - Penny Williamson (28th Feb 2022 - 13:32:12) Susan It is my opinion that posting derogatory comments anonymously on this site, even if you think they are justified, about businesses, particularly the smaller local ones, is a bad thing and very unfair if you have not already apprised them of your dissatisfaction and received their response. If after doing that you are still dissatisfied that is the time to post.

Once again, please leave Susan alone as she did not create this post. I've spoken to the curryhouse (politely) and advised them I wasn't satisfied. I still make no apology for sharing my experience on here with a view to gaining others' views. Thanks to those who replied sensibly and without jumping defensively into action. I think it's useful to gain other residents' opinions and would personally always give somewhere a chance regardless. I was merely gauging public opinion. Surely this forum is designed for advice, recommendations and general discussion on local services! Still smiling at the suggestion that I'm a rival takeaway business! :-D

Unless you are comparing the madubahn take away dishes with exactly the same dishes from another Indian take away what is your definition of good? I think you also should have inquired who the owners are and told them what you found wrong with it as they will not improve unless told about it. The cost of food has gone up, perhaps they have changed suppliers.

Unfortunately on quite a few occasions, they have given me meat when I have ordered a vegetarian meal! As a life long vegetarian, this is quite upsetting. However, they always try to rectify the mistake. So this is my experience, lovely food when they get it right :-)
