Boris Johnson
- Penny Williamson (4th Feb 2022 - 09:58:39)

I thought I would start a new Thread with the title Boris Johnson as the criticisms and comments about Boris Johnson under the Thread entitled Mr Hinds have strayed from the point. It has been said by some that the parties held in Downing Street during the Lockdown pale into insignificance when one looks at what is occurring in the rest of the world.

That may be true. However it is not just the holding of the parties that is in question, it is Mr Johnson’s judgement and integrity or lack of it that is the important issue. The behaviour in Downing Street during Lockdown was appalling but the bucks stops at the top and Mr Johnson is at the top. Therefore it rather begs the question as to whether or not he is fit to be Prime Minister.

It is said by some that he “got Brexit done”. I would challenge that. Dominic Cummings “got Brexit done”. Mr Johnson was the mouthpiece as is the case of many MP’s on many varying subjects. MP’s are advised by their advisors in the Civil Service and on this advice MP’s ultimately make their decisions. However when the MP does not listen to his or her advisors as is in the case of the latest debacle with Kier Starmer, the civil servant resigns ie Munira Mirza.

It is said we had the most successful vaccination program in Europe. Mr Johnson did appoint Kate Bingham to mastermind this and gave her unlimited funds, but that was the end of his involvement in actually organizing the roll out. Kate Bingham did the rest and she has been justly rewarded.

However it has become increasingly apparent that Mr Johnson is very much a loose cannon as is demonstrated by his unjustified and scurrilous attack on Kier Starmer – an attack for which there was no proof. Mr Johnson had said that Sir Keir "spent most of his time [as DPP] prosecuting journalists and failing to prosecute Jimmy Savile". He made the unfounded claim which has been discredited before in the House of Commons where "parliamentary privilege" gives MPs certain legal protections over what they say. On Tuesday 1 February, Downing Street said Boris Johnson "stands by" his comments. But on Thursday 3 February, Mr Johnson said: "I'm not talking about the leader of the opposition's personal record when he was DPP. I was making a point about his responsibility for the organisation as a whole." This final statement one of the many Mr Johnson has made during his not so illustrious career clearly demonstrates his ability to twist the truth and his inability to tell the truth.

Very well put. The strange and sad thing is that people ever thought he was fit to be Mayor of London, Conservative Party leader or Prime Minister. He has few strong principles other than his own advancement.

He had an affair on his ex wife while she was undergoing cancer treatment.

That's the measure of the man. If he treats his own family like that, you can only imagine how low we all are down his priority list. We still don't know how many children he actually has, for goodness sake.

There are many decent and honorable Conservatives. Mr Johnson is not one of them. Shame on them all for enabling him.

I have a good friend who worked with Johnson when he led the Foreign Office. He is simply put, even worse 'off camera' than on it, if you can believe it.

A truly awful man and the worst PM we've ever had the misfortune to end up with.

- In waiting (4th Feb 2022 - 12:36:13)

Well here we go again . You have opened a can of worms Penny. I just cannot get my head around the British people as soon as the country start’s to do well some MPs want to put the knife in instead of working together. I always think who could do better no one I can think of. Results are the key thing he gets results I can not imagine any other MP or party doing any better. I will wait in anticipation to see if all of you are right and we get a better PM or party because if you all carry on like this we will have a new government and you no who that will be GOD Help us .

“Getting Brexit Done” is just a soundbite, the wheels of Brexit where put in motion by the vote and both the EU and UK governments followed the process to deliver it.. whatever it was. NO member of the current government can take credit for delivering any of it as the was always going to happen post the vote. Boris and others use the sound bite purely to lock in the voters whom either wanted Brexit and or got bored of hearing about it… he didn’t get anything DONE

Neither did this government do a good job on Covid, sure they got more vaccines out than our EU neighbours for a short period but we have already fallen behind most countries on that already, the whole Astra vaccine was a waste of time as well (UK no longer use it) the other countries where correct to question it.

What we have is an embarrassing leadership attempting to trick us all with low level sound bite media Murdock control as they have decided the majority of our population are easy to manipulate…. Outside of this UK box of control we are a laughing stock lead by a clown

It’s an utter shame to have flipped from being regarded as a decent country to this side show of little influence

i agree with the negative comments about Boris but there is no one else who has enough popularity to become leader. Rees Mogg? no thank you. Also please expand on just how we are all doing so well? i do not feel that is true, we do not have enough trade deals in place to keep us profitable, and when the rises after Brexit kick in to inflation will be at least 7 per cent? Job vacancies do not equal prosperity.

Well don’t no what you all are squealing about. When I managed to buy my first home in 1970s after a very long time of saving before I managed to move in the interest rate went to 15% . With a family and the wife not working only a pin money job it ment a second and third job to pay the mortgage.I’m afraid you have never had it so good. The country is definitely on the up we are definitely showing the EU the way that’s why they are so grumpy. Please please don’t rock the boat because you will regret it big time.
