Thank You to all our Knitters and wool Donators
- Penny (30th Jan 2022 - 13:33:59)

🧶🧤👕🧢🧣🧶🧤👕🧢🧣🧶

During Lockdown Liphook Day Centre kept many of our volunteers and members busy knitting baby clothes, cardigans, hats and booties and we sent a large box of these to the “Warm Baby Gambia Project”

This is a letter we received following receipt of our donation :-

Dear All

Thank you so much for all you hard work on behalf of our project. I cannot tell you how much this means to the new mums and babies in the hospitals in The Gambia. Facilities over there are primitive to say the least, no sheets, blankets or pillows on the beds, no gowns, no clothes or bedding for the newborn babies. Your wonderful knitting will make such a huge difference to the families who receive it. Since we started sending medical supplies, beds, clothing and bedding we have managed to reduce infant motality in the hospitals we work with from 30% to almost 0%.
So put simply your efforts are helping to make the difference between life and death for this new generation.
It takes anything between 6 weeks and 3 months for the shipping container to get to the port of Banjul and then maybe another 3 weeks to get the goods up country to the outlying hospitals. We try to get the drivers who deliver for us to take photographs of the hospitals receiving the goods, so if and when I receive some photos I will forward them to you. The grateful, happy faces is what keeps us going !
We have been overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of groups like yourselves who knit for us on a regular basis, we receive parcels from as far apart as Aberdeen and Newquay in Cornwall.
Thank you again for you generosity.

Very best wishes

Chris & Keith
