Christmas Tree Disposal?

Does anyone know how a disabled person who does not have a car and lives alone on nothing but benefit money, goes about finding a final resting place for the old (but much appreciated) Christmas tree?
I have phoned EHDC but was told unless I had a green waste collection, they couldn't help. I then asked if I could please apply for said collection but was told they are no longer accepting any applications!!!
Help, what do I do?
Any sensible suggestions, very gratefully appreciated.

Whoever delivered you your tree could you not ask them to dispose of it for you, only a thought.
