Millennium Centre - drugs
- Concerned (5th Oct 2021 - 08:39:20)

As a newbie to Liphook I've already noticed that the Millennium Centre seems to be the hotspot for people smoking weed. Whilst this isn't the biggest crime of the century, I did notice last night that there was a white van with an older gentleman, wearing a beanie type hat and loads of teenagers gathered around. Could be innocent but given that all the teenagers were also smoking weed it seems a little suspicious.

Have previous attempts been made to alert the police of this? I'm certainly going to keep an eye on it and report any suspicious instances. I'm just surprised that it seems so blatant there without any attempt to disguise what they're doing...Be good to know what others have observed/ done.

I emailed the Millennium Hall couple of weeks ago as it's happening on their premises - wasn't by children though older in their 30s, literally in their front garden and happening during Brownies/scouts etc ie around 5pm and the stench was incredibly strong.

Have witnessed school-age smoking weed many times previously at the back of the hall but at the moment the problem seems older people who convene unashamedly at the front.

Has the dealing moved from Radford Park? Doubt it - suppose this is just an additional place...

I've not personally noticed it at Radford Park. But it seems to happen daily at the Millennium Centre, and yes, around 5pm as you (Jane) note.

This kind of thing needs to be stopped in its tracks so I'll also contact the Millennium Centre but would encourage people to log incidents with the police too. If enough of us report it, they will need to do something! For one thing, I wouldn't want my child breathing it in!

The dealers are certainly also active lower end of London Road . I often pass cars dealing on Thursday and Friday nights. Usually between 9 to 11.30pm after pizza van has gone. Same little old cars / white van that frequent the back of Sainsbury car park. So not hard to locate even for a pea brainer if the plod cared to try. Also they are around Saturday nights along with the occasional steamy window doggers. Don’t come aknocking if the XR3i is rocking :)

As I mentioned before I'd encourage anyone who witnesses it to report to the police with registration plates and vehicle details. The more people who report it, the higher the chance of the police doing something.

Whilst I expect that you may have witnessed people smoking weed by the Millenium Centre, the occasion that you mentioned on Monday evening was actually the local Explorer Scouts and their leader. Probably the least likely group to be smoking weed in public!

Hi,
Does the Millennium Centre own the surrounding area of it's building?
If our local council have the right's, then anti-social behaviour of partaking in class C substances, should be banned from these premises.
It will only lead to more dangerous drugs, and social problems to families, and households in our area.

These grown men are there multiple times per day. The one with the man bun starts his puffing session early morning, I’ve seen him multiple times while taking the kids to school. Currently 9.50pm and there’s a few of them there now smoking it. The smell is awful.

I have noticed dealing going on after the school children turn up at 4 pm in the car park at Radford park. There are always also loads of the laughing gas canisters there strewn around. The local parish council though are not policemen, they cannot police these areas we pay council tax for the regular police to deal with this.

I don't actually know what "a bit of weed" smells like. Not a good sign that so many residents do.

Re: Millennium Centre - drugs
- Concerned (7th Oct 2021 - 08:59:56)

D - that's ridiculous. I've never smoked weed but can recognise the smell. If you walk past the Millennium Hall you can't help but smell it - it's incredibly pungent and instantly recognisable. In this day and age, I think most people know what weed smells like!

Re: Millennium Centre - drugs
- D (7th Oct 2021 - 10:14:44)

I do hope I'm not going to be villified for not doing so.

Re: Millennium Centre - drugs
- Concerned (7th Oct 2021 - 10:48:40)

If anything D, I'm envious. I wish I didn't have to smell it on such a regular basis!

Re: Millennium Centre - drugs
- D (7th Oct 2021 - 13:17:00)

If you live near there and can't escape the smell then yes I can understand how you feel. My house is near Highfield Lane and I have to put up with treated sewage being spread on the fields in the summer.

Re: Millennium Centre - drugs
- Jen (8th Oct 2021 - 10:27:51)

I too have no idea what it smells like! Why on earth would/should I?

Re: Millennium Centre - drugs
- Concerned (8th Oct 2021 - 10:44:54)

Jen, lucky you. In this day and age it’s quite rare for people who have gone to college/university or even just sat in their garden not to have smelled it at some point. Knowing what weed smells like does not mean that person uses drugs themselves. I know what vaping smells like but have never vaped…

Re: Millennium Centre - drugs
- Concerned (8th Oct 2021 - 11:09:58)

As with many of these threads, it’s starting to lose the original point. I’m merely concerned about drugs in liphook and want to try and mitigate it. I’ve contacted the Millennium Centre and will log any incidents with the police. I’d encourage anyone else who cares about this issue to do the same.

Millennium centre, Skate park and the seat under the trees outside the Library are all common spots with the latter two exceptionally stupid as when the Police have turned up. They can and do, as I have witnessed actually sneak around the library building and the officers get to within 6ft of the perpetrators by the time the idiots see them so they get caught completely red handed.

I have seen those I seen caught over by the Millennium recently, as they are probably smart enough now to understand that location offers them better fields of approaching view and the hedges to hide behind.

Re: Millennium Centre - drugs
- D (9th Oct 2021 - 07:29:52)

Ah! I didn't go to college or university. I've never smelt drugs in my garden neither, and I do live in what was once commonly referred to as one of the "ghetto" areas of Liphook.

Concerned, it was YOU who sent the conversation this way. Live and let live I say. Can't be no worse than getting a face full of someone's cigarette smoke.

Re: Millennium Centre - drugs
- Jane (9th Oct 2021 - 08:54:19)

D
Unfortunately, it is way worse than cigarette smoking and if you get out and about you can smell it from bedroom windows, parks,,carparks, shopping centres generally, I too have never done drugs or been to uni but that's irrelevant these days you will smell it in every town now. This variety is particularly strong from these culprits that it takes your breath away!
