LiDBA & The Vaccination Clinic
- Liphook & District Businessmen's Association (25th Aug 2021 - 20:12:38)

Since December 2020 a large team of members from LiDBA [Liphook & District Businessmen’s Association] including partners have been, together with Petersfield Lions and Petersfield U3A, volunteering at the Petersfield Festival Hall Covid-19 Vaccination Clinic.

The aim of The Liphook & District Businessmen’s Association [LiDBA] is to be of service to the community, particularly the young and disabled.
The chance to be involved in the vaccination programme neatly falls in line with these aims.

The Petersfield Lions were approached in early Dec 2020 by the Swan Medical Group to assist with marshalling. LiDBA immediately offered their help to boost the volunteer numbers and worked closely with the Lions who coordinated all the volunteers very efficiently.

The Swan Medical Group coordinated the vaccinators drawn from Surgeries in Liphook in the north to Clanfield in the south.
Up to 145 volunteers have been involved in helping the NHS, but there is now a core of 100 active volunteers from the LiDBA, Petersfield Lions and U3A groups plus some independent volunteers.

Our roles have been marshalling the members of the local community receiving the Astra Zeneca and Pfizer Vaccines. At every session there are nine volunteers present to ensure that the flow of visitors progresses as smoothly as possible.

Up to 1200 vaccines have been administered each day that the Centre is open.

Volunteers carry out a myriad of tasks; car park duty, sanitizing visitors’ hands and guiding them to check-in, stewarding to seats in the hall, informing the doctors and nurses when visitors are ready, sanitizing chairs, helping some people fill in their form (with accompanying clip board and pen), ushering them to the waiting area, taking their clip board and pen, timing those sitting for fifteen minutes (Pfizer), sanitizing chairs and sanitizing and replenishing the clip boards with new forms for the reception to start again!
Without volunteers, this would amount to a large amount of NHS extra time, money and stress. Additionally there are volunteer tea ladies and gents who administer tea and biscuits throughout the day to the vaccinators, records staff and volunteers. The public and local shops have been marvellous at donating goodies such as crisps, cake and biscuits.

Each volunteer shift is usually two to three hours long with vaccinations starting at 8.30 am and finishing at 7.30 pm. All volunteers have to have a current negative lateral flow test before starting their shift.

The vaccination figures are staggering!

As at mid-August there have been 39940 first doses and 35651 second doses given at the Petersfield Festival Hall to all applicable age ranges. The next session will be held on 31st August to which 950 people have been invited to attend.

The whole project has produced a camaraderie with the public, the local NHS staff & volunteers.

The organisers of the vaccination programme, Swan Medical Group, have partially vaccinated 91.4% and fully vaccinated 82.9% of patients across the local Primary Care Network
.
The next phase of vaccinations is currently being organised and we will be involved in our volunteering activities until next December.

This is fantastic to hear. How can someone sign up to be a volunteer?
