Co-Op
- Leila (11th Mar 2021 - 14:14:35)

A terrible food hygiene rating for our local Co-Op. Dont think I want to be shopping there until they make whatever changes they need to make!

Is that why they appeared to be shut earlier this morning as I drove past?

Would love to see their review of The Anchor.

There was a power cut.

Re: Co-Op
- C (11th Mar 2021 - 18:52:17)

Almost every other place in Liphook is rated 5, including the Royal Anchor, with a small number of 4’s

Re: Co-Op
- Ian (12th Mar 2021 - 08:16:16)

For the last couple of months the Anchor has been the cleanest it’s been for years! Been a really nice pub since January

Re: Co-Op
- OLLIE (12th Mar 2021 - 08:46:39)

Its been the cleanest for the last few months because its been closed, wait till lock-down is finished & we will be back to normal ie.s~*t hole.

- WENDY MARTIN (12th Mar 2021 - 09:57:42)

You horrible vindiictive people, the anchor is obviously trying very hard to get itself up to scratch, and was it really necessary to put the coop rating on here? couldnt it have waited until they had a chance to get things right? We are in the middle of a pandemic, everyone and everything is suffering, just saying, why not give people and things a chance to improve

Re: Co-Op
- D (12th Mar 2021 - 12:22:18)

The Co-op is a convenience store, of course it has a low hygiene rating. It's not as if they serve food there. I agree with Wendy, the vindictiveness and spite shown here is unbelievable. Not the Liphook I grew up in.

Re: Co-Op
- David (12th Mar 2021 - 12:29:50)

Unfortunately Wendy the Anchors is the Anchor and its never been anything but.

- James (12th Mar 2021 - 12:45:16)

Wendy, that is a bit over the top, isn't it? I haven't been to The Anchor in god knows how many years because of its poor food and hygiene, however, given the recent posts on here over the years it doesn't look like much has changed which is why I haven't returned.

As for the Co-Op yes the rating should be on here, I will no longer be going to the Co-Op a place I prefer over Sainsbury's because of its hygiene rating. People deserve to know. If it's not a five I don't go. So, Leila thank you for informing the community about this.

The pandemic doesn't mean responsibility is thrown out the window.

Re: Co-Op
- James (12th Mar 2021 - 13:03:39)

D, the Co-Op do serve food, they have a bakery.

Re: Co-Op
- helen (12th Mar 2021 - 22:45:21)

There is no bakery in the co op? any bread is baked elsewhere. Some baked goods are sold unwrapped but they are not baked there, possibly there is a small reheating oven. Any establishment selling food has to have a rating. Even church hall kitchens have to have a rating these days.

Re: Co-Op
- James (12th Mar 2021 - 22:55:25)

Helen, on the website it states there is a bakery. Not sure if it is still in use or not.

Re: Co-Op
- Clare (13th Mar 2021 - 07:55:29)

Below is a copy and paste of the report from EHDC website , major concern was surrounding management of food safety ( probably not using “ safer foods better business” correctly ) anyone who has concerns can request the full report . It only takes a series of smaller issues to drop a rating substantially. Reading between the lines out of date food was found, staff training not up to date and evidencing of infection control auditing not recorded.

Hygienic food handling

Hygienic handling of food including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage
Very good

Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building

Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building (including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control) to enable good food hygiene
Improvement necessary

Management of food safety

System or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future
Major improvement necessary

Re: Co-Op
- D (13th Mar 2021 - 08:25:05)

I don't remember a bakery in the Co-op now, when it was Wavyline, or when it was the Co-op first time round back in the seventies.

Re: Co-Op
- Helen (13th Mar 2021 - 10:36:58)

James probably means they sell baked goods without the wrapping but they have no " bakery". Even Sainsburys have no bakery but a bakery section.

Re: Co-Op
- Bronwen (13th Mar 2021 - 11:01:43)

Hope something was done about pest control after I encountered a mouse nipping down the aisle a few weeks ago. The girls who were shelf filling were very quick off the mark to chase it out but I hope this was reported to senior staff .
