@Admin,
does the nursing home not charge the residents enough to cover costs for activities already?!
The average cost of a residential care home = £45,916 per year
& a nursing home even more = £55,536 per year,if the resident owns their own home and are therefor self funding,in this area.
I believe at these high costs for social care or nursing care activities are therapeutic and should be included as part of their care plan,therefore the resident is already paying for this.
Rather than asking for old,dirty used hats why not just buy something,that could be useful,bearing in mind the Summer is around the corner.
Surely at such high costs your residents deserve this!

Mark,
It is true that some care homes are tremendously expensive to self funders , all families can see a break down of costs, it is also true that local authorities will try to pay the barest minimum to secure bed spaces for the beds they fund. Many care homes have a fundraising activities to provide the little extras for those who could not afford them.
A recreation budget is not bottomless, due to Covid restrictions no doubt more In house recreational activities have been to be provided As people are not going out into the community to enjoy activities.
Recycling unwanted hats is a sound and environmentally friendly idea, they can also be sanitised before use.
** thank you for trying to provide some light relief and fun for your residents In these difficult times **

@Claire,
it is true that the majority of care homes charge more than the average figures I quoted,particularly in the south of England,not some as you seem to think.
Many residents here in the south are self funders,check out the data,in fact some care homes only accept self funders,and charge activities as 'extra'.
If activities are included on a care plan,they are included in the upfront fee.
If activities are classed as 'meaningful',they should be included on the care plan,and as such the resident is already paying for this,regardless of the frequency of an activity.
econdhand dirty old hats,santised or not are not really creating the right attitude,are they.
I would be interested to know which miserly care home this is,clearly you know Claire,so do share this.

Could be a person employed to organise activities for residents who has no budget
from the care home itself. Lots of care homes would have self employed people doing this type of thing. The original poster may reckon on our co operation if they imply they are actually a struggling care home requesting supplies.
