Respite home from home for seniors
- Claire (18th Feb 2021 - 14:34:44)
Hi there
I am considering offering bespoke support for seniors in my own home or theirs. I anticipate offering older people the opportunity to take part in enrichment and skill retention activities . This could include outings, baking, arts and crafts , concerts, theatre trips etc. It could also include support to visit family and friends who may live some distance away. Whilst I would be very happy to support with personal care etc this would not be the main purpose of the time we would spend together, it would be to extend and maintain interests and increase community access
I would anticipate it would be adhoc support based solely on a persons interests and needs.
It could be part of carer respite or simply a way of families extending social opportunities for a loved one.
I would of course have the required registrations, insurances, enhanced DBS etc. I am highly qualified and keep all my training up to date.
Social services are asking I offer this service for younger people with disabilities which is what I previously offered, however, i feel our seniors could really benefit from this type of service provision.
This will not come to fruition until lockdown eases ......which I know we all hope is on the horizon!
So, my question is, do you think this is a service which could be useful locally.

Hi Clare,
All sounds interesting. Just a few questions.
I assume when you say that you will have “all registrations “ that you are referring to CQC ?
This takes some time to acquire and has a cost associated.
&
You also say that you are “highly qualified and keep your training up to date”.
What are you qualified to offer?
What experience do you have as you mentioned you provided this for younger adults previously?
Finally what are you planning to charge for your services and what accommodation do you provide to enable the activities you refer to?
I am interested as this sector is heavily regulated and any new service comes at quite a financial cost usually, and only then accessed by the private sector.
How will you be able to make it available to all?

Hi Susie
The services I currently offer are through the shared lives scheme. CQC registration not needed.
The charge for services provided are dependent on the needs and wishes the people I support, currently funded primarily through PIP but obviously older persons requiring support have a different funding streams.
I am qualified to lead and manage care homes , I have done that at regional level though that is what I am moving away from.
I have had some lovely engagement with a company in West Sussex looking for just the kind of service I want to offer, so I think my question has been answered, it is a service that would have value locally.
Thank you for you interest, and if you work in the sector....... keep smiling!

Always 1 isn't there Clare. I'm sure you've looked into all that I think it's a fantastic idea.
