Long range broadband
- M (30th Jan 2021 - 12:16:46)

Hello,

We'd like to get our broadband down to our office / shed approximately 80 meters from the main house. It's within sightline, so hope we can get some kind of strong booster installed (?!). Does anyone know of a local company who could carry out installation, and what it is I even need to ask for?

Thanks!

Do you have power running to your shed? If so, a simple power line adapter would do the trick. This will run your broadband signal from your router, down the neutral wire to your shed. Simples.

Agreed, pair of powerline units will work as long as the power in the home and the shed are both on the same ring. But yet ones that claim higher speeds, like 1GB, Alternatively run a length of network cable down there, as long as the total distance of the cable is under 100m.

Home WiFi solutions/boosters are flaky at 80m, you sort of need a point to point system at those distances

Hi
Highly recommend ADP Connected, petersfield based and brilliant, will be happy to talk through your options I am sure.

You can call Ben directly on 07833 232256 ( I’m sure he won’t mind me giving out his mobile number!)

As long as the outbuilding is on the same power circuit then homeplugs are your best bet. Hardwired connections are always better than WiFi which fluctuate and may need to compete for bandwidth depending on other devices and your neighbours.

Got some good ones from Amazon today: amazon.co.uk/dp/B089DKK2K7

Have you considered a separate phone line? Your chosen provider can run it straight to the Office, and then you won't be contending with others at home for available bandwidth?

As long as you have power both ends I would suggest installing a wireless point to point bridge. I work in the electronic security industry and have been using these for years to stream HD video over large distances. These generally cost around £200 and works straight out of the box.
