Sadness at Liphook Care Charity Shop - tanya wilkinson (10th Sep 2020  10:35:46) I would like to start by thanking everyone for your support and patience during these difficult times. But it is with great sadness that i am finding everyday our volunteers are being verbally abused by at least 1 person, either over donations, which due to quarantine regulations and space are limited to 30 bags on each of the 4 days we are able to receive, and over the wearing of face coverings. The face coverings subject is obviously a great debate, but as ALL our VOLUNTEERS (generously giving their time) are vulnerable to a degree we ask EVERYONE to wear a face covering, we are a non essential shop and it is your choice to come in so PLEASE do NOT shout or swear at our volunteers when they ask you to wear a face covering. We are not discriminating, we are trying to protect and help our community.

The aggressive reaction on them & not you - I too work in a Customer Service Role & I am very disappointed in the reaction of some people & their selfishness& egocentric behavior, sadly this seems to have got much worse during the current climate.. Sending my best wishes to you all - I will try to get in to see you soon - If I hear anyone abusing your staff - I shall not keep quiet.

I appreciate it is inconvenient when you bag up donations and then find that the charity shop is unable to accept them but so much about the current pandemic is inconvenient to say the least!! The charity shop is doing all it can to keep everyone safe – customers and staff alike. This means that they have to ‘quarantine’ donations for 72 hours before sorting them and adding them to the stock in the shop – it can’t be difficult to understand that they will have limited space for storing items and therefore need to restrict intake of goods? As for wearing masks, again this is for everyone’s safety so, if you don’t like wearing a mask (yes, I appreciate that some people are exempt and they can advise staff accordingly) then don’t try to enter enclosed spaces! The charity shop is part of the BLH Charity which has existed for 30 years – during that time the charity has donated £1.25 million to local individuals, families and organisations, many of whom were in desperate need of assistance with nowhere else to turn. That’s a lot of people who’ve been helped along the way. None of this could be achieved without the hard work of staff and volunteers – people who give up their time to help others and give back to society – spare a thought for them next time you feel like venting your frustrations! Fortunately, the complainers and abusers are in the minority – thanks to all those who donate and shop in the charity shops and let’s try to remember that the current limitations can be stressful for staff and volunteers too.
