Rave in the bomb pits
- Ann (26th Jul 2020  13:00:43)

Cars, camping, gazebos, music and rubbish aplenty in the bomb pits overnight. Take care of your kids and dogs today for any broken glass etc left in the area

Report it to Highfield school as it’s their land

Can't be no noisier than their annual prom.

Highfield School's land? I am thinking of the same place am I? Byway open to all traffic that takes you through to the golf course and out near the Black Fox?

Carole

In these times we need a good time, a rave in the bombpits is no harm to anyone, and only longtime liphook residents know where it is.

And i have to agree with D i doubt it belongs to the school.

The land belongs to the highfield estate. Hence their estate office number on the signs saying it is private

I think we're on about two different places, Ann. The one I'm thinking if is the one just opposite Highfield Lane which ends up at the top of the Milland road just opposite the Black Fox. It's a byway open to all traffic, the signs say so at both ends.

Why is it called the bomb pits? Is it a safe place to walk a dog or could there be uxbs?

I think both of you could be right . The lane running down from Midhurst Road is the old London Road straight through to the Black Fox behind the golf club. The Old mushroom farm is on the left now an industrial site. Just past there it forks go right and you come out at the Links Pub follow the road on up slight hill the bomb pits are on the right it’s been a play area for local kids since the war and before. We used to ride our bikes and then motorcycles there. As for bomb pits I am told that bombs were dropped there from enemy planes returning back to Germany that were. Lost. I think Highfield School does own it because it includes it in its plans for houses between Highfield Lane and Chiltlee Lane it will become the sangs for the houses if it ever gets permission. But I could be wrong so don’t kill me the Heritage Centre will have more information.
