The real reason you never see police around
- Mr T (23rd Jul 2020 11:57:44)
Tradesman working in Four Marks today. Pop over to shop for lunch and see not one but four police cars and a bike with 5 officers just having mother’s meeting in The BP garage drinking tea and eating.
No wonder they not interested looking for my stolen tools after van break in etc etc and every other report they get. Boils my p***.
Sure take lunch but why a massive group in one spot???
Took a pic on the phone of it but have no idea how to upload it!
[editor]Upload picture to your flickr account and then you can ‘embed’ it into your next post.[/editor]

Just maybe there were no calls that required their assistance? Just maybe the officers in charge of your stolen tools were not the officers in the cafe on their break? Just maybe.

Probably having a break between jobs and what you saw was them eating on the move.
The actual real reason we don't see them around is that there are less of them, Police numbers have been cut and continue to be, wasn't more than a few weeks ago on TV they has shown the whole of Hartlepool only had 2-3 officers on duty overnight, a town of 92000! so expecting to see them in Liphook is optimistic
Wonder who's fault that is?

It's certainly true Liphook seems to have lost any sign of the police. It's also true that police numbers have fallen, but only back to the levels they were in 2000, when numbers had been stable for around 20 years. That's roughly 1 officer per 1000 people in Hampshire. It's also true the proportion of solved crimes continue to fall, indicating a clear failure in detecting and arresting offenders. Most people want burglaries, theft, violence against the person, criminal damage and anti social behaviour tackled.
Police management do not have the same priorities. Have a look at the Police Commissioners Police and Crime plan 2016 to 2021. Page 16 is all you need to read. Protecting vulnerable people, serious organised crime and community cohesion are the "force control strategies".
I'm afraid the original poster of this chain of comment will find nothing about theft of tools (and hence livelihood) but will find lots about domestic abuse, human trafficking, radicalisation, drug related harm etc. I suggest all voters read this mighty tone and ask themselves are these my priorities for policing?
As for the police gathering for lunch, we can only hope they were preparing for a mass raid on the Mr Bigs of organised crime.

Lac. Police numbers may have "only fallen back to the levels of 2000" the trouble is the population has increased in the same time by 12%

Mr.T,
Surely your first course of action should have been to ask the officers concerned what they were doing rather than slag them off on social media? I'm sure they would have had no objection in explaining to you their movements for the day.
Anyone's job looks easy until you do it yourself, I certainly don't begrudge anyone their breaks.

If you look at your council tax bill, and check out how much you contribute to Police Services, you may want to think about where this money goes.
Certainly not to rural areas, which is why burglaries etc are on the increase.
There are little / no resources to address these crimes, certainly in rural areas and the criminals are aware of this.
Higher population = more taxes = more income for them.
But if you check out who will respond if you are burgled or worse threatened in your own home,if / when they will investigate it,and if / when they will get any result / catch the offender.
You may get very upset.
Perhaps you should consider asking what you are getting for your contributions, and check out how Damian Hinds MP voted on matters such as Police Resources / Rural areas.
You voted for him,I for one didn't.
Try contacting him, write to him ask the question.
Ask the local Police Commissioner what you get for your financial mandatory contribution too.
Enough people asking may get an answer, complacent attitudes = get nothing!

Coincidence that they all happen to be in the same area then? Maybe Four Marks has a very high crime rate?
Course people at work in any job get lunch etc. But it didn’t look good when there are crimes and anti social behaviour going down in areas such as here in Liphook and surrounding areas.
But don’t worry I’ll keep paying my ever increasing council tax and when I get robbed I’ll just settle for a crime ref number and forget it ever happened. Wait until you need them and be told to pick a number!!!!

Suze, burglaries etc are covered by insurance, you really don't need a police response just to help you fill out a claim form, when they can send you a crime number by post or text.
They are needed to deal with the big stuff, people up and down the country are being offended or perceiving offence or even called gender stereotypical names which often fail to even correctly identify their protected characteristics, thankfully this is being stamped down on with great vigour and commitment!
And if anyone thinks this isn't a big problem, let me give you an example:
Only last week a friend referred to watching a 'Cowboy and Indian film' when of course we all know it is currently to be called 'White invading settler and ethnic indigenous population film' and yes, I did report him immediately!!

Statistics on Police
In 2006 the UK Police workforce for England and Wales was at 141,385 it is now at 124,784. That is a difference of 16,601 members of the Police force let go.
In 2006 the UK Population was at 60,827,100 in 2019 it is at 66,796,800 and these are only mid-year estimates.
As soon as the Conservatives assumed power in 2010 UK Police Workforce decreased by 5 thousand in 2011 and roughly 5 thousand every year after that up until 2017.
You wonder why there is crime? Look at the people YOU elect.

Dear Mr T
They are entitled to a break, and trust me you have very few food/drink breaks in the job.
Why don’t you apply to join, see what it’s really like, and feel free to knock the force. Surrey are currently desperately trying to recruit.... come join.

Dear, Me
Obviously you or someone you know in the force. Perhaps you could give them my crime reference number and get me some sort of update? Perhaps even replace my tools or you can?
If you need a plumber in an emergency, hopefully we’re not all in the cafe!!!

Er not all burglaries are covered by insurance. If you are burgled frequently you cannot get cover. We pay for policing we do not get.

Stop moaning that there is a lack of police when the majority of you have voted conservatives for the last ten years. The tories have bought years of austerity. And now you have these struggling public services on the frontline with the coronavirus.
