some advice please
- WENDY (1st Jul 2020  10:09:45)

My husband is 86, and a diabetic, and I am 80, our family and neighbours are being very kind and shopping, getting medicines, even have a lady bringing us eggs, and we are very appreciative, but we would like to be independent again, is it safe for us to go to the shops, chemist etc? we would so like to get back to being as normal as possible, any helpful remarks would be great

I would say be cautious. Infection rates are still high in this country compared to the rest of Europe. Probably not in the local area but we cannot be sure.

I would be particularly cautious as restrictions are lifted on Saturday and wait to see what impact that has on infection rates.

I agree with Liz, whilst we are on the right track the UK numbers seem to be stalling and not dropping into the lower numbers that Italy, Spain, France is getting. The UK 7 day average new cases is still nearly 1000 yet Italy its way down at 200.

By all means get outside and enjoy the summer but minimize your risks entirely, it will be a very long time before we are back at full normal and that full normal definitely isn't going to be in 2020.

There is no problem in getting out and about in our local area but take precautions and be aware of others.
The rate of Covid-19 is extremely low in our area of Hampshire and Surrey.
Wash your hands regularly and keep your distance but get out and about and enjoy being a normal human being again.

Thank you, will wait another couple of weeks, then see how things are then.

As M says we live in a good area no problem in going out it will probably do you a lot of good. I am 79 and my wife is 78 we have done all our shopping in Liphook from the start we collect our eggs from the day centre on Tuesday go to the chemist for prescriptions. Just do what Boris Johnson has said stay alert and away from people it is not a problem. Go out and sit in the sun when we get it or walk around our lovely village the wild flowers on the Millennium green are great this year.Good Luck.

I too am cautious but if shopping I visit late afternoon, not too many folk about then.
