Bonfires - Joe (30th Jun 2020  14:27:50) What on earth possesses someone to light a ruddy great noxious bonfire on a wet windy day? Presumably lost their tiny thoughtless mind in lockdown. Don't you realise the rest of us are all stuck in your smoke you ignorant ******

Re: Bonfires - Yellow bannanna Adrian (30th Jun 2020  19:47:01) I think the bonfire man was using his head. You can't go to the tip at Bordon as you now need to be registered and get an appointment. So he chose a wet windy day when people would be indoors with windows closed. If he or she lit the bonfire a warm sunny day when people are enjoying their gardens you may have a point.

Re: Bonfires - Paul (2nd Jul 2020  09:21:58) Getting an appointment at the recycling centre couldn't be easier. It took all of 1 minute to book for last Saturday, and as they only let in 3 cars at once (Bordon HWRC) it was a zen-like experience of calm .... Bonfires of garden waste don't bother me. But the regular burning of non-organic waste including plastics - that's not nice. It seems to be from a spot I can't quite identify near the railway bridge. Does anyone know who or exactly where that's coming from?

Re: Bonfires - CK (2nd Jul 2020  19:28:24) I appreciate that during lockdown we were advised by EHDC to refrain and I have done so. I also appreciate that burning non-organics like plastic is noxious. However, my garden does create its share of waste branches and I am not going to bother bringing them to the tip when I have a perfectly large enough space to have a little fire now and then maybe twice a year. I do pick what I hope are appropriate times later when most folks have gone in. If it offends someone I can only apologize.

Re: Bonfires - Paul (2nd Jul 2020  21:31:57) @D - the railway bridge nearest the station (Midhurst Road). For years (yes, years) someone burns non-organic material somewhere in that general area but I've never been able to pin-point the exact location.

Re: Bonfires - Anthony (3rd Jul 2020  10:48:28) I average 2 bonfires a year and follow the following rules:- 1 Only garden waste ( mainly fallen branches and hedge clippings) is burnt 2 Avoid bird nesting months 3 Avoid burning during a drought when surrounding vegetation is tinder dry. 4 Only burn when the prevailing wind direction is away from all neighbouring houses. 5 Avoid weekends . 6 Never leave unattended.

I’m tempted to say I’ll swap your bonfire for the FIFTEEN, yes, FIFTEEN, ten year olds from one of the local independent schools currently partying in my next door neighbours’ garden. I console myself with the fact that the idiot parents paying the fees have achieved nothing. You are correct though, bonfires are a disgrace. My point is that even those who consider themselves above the rest of us, are no better than the fire lighters. One day, we’ll be normal again. Stay safe and well everyone.
