Phone calls
- R.H. (7th Jun 2020 20:20:51)
On Thurwday I received a call on my mobile purporting to come from Hampshire County Council at Winchester. As I was busy at the time I did not listen too closely, however the caller said they would call back the next day.
Today { Sunday} i had a repeat call. The first one was from an 01962 number, fair enough, todays was from an 0800 number.
The message was about people who had been shut down for 12 weeks.
Am I right to be suspicious!

According to the Haslemere Community Board FB page there were quite a few suspicious phone calls last week. I had one on Friday asking about the loft insulation that the government had installed and saying it needed to be inspected.
When I asked when that was, they hung up. Be aware. It was supposedly a local number.

I too had a phone call last week enquiring about an inspection of loft insulation that had been paid for by local government.
When I told them they were speaking to a warehouse they immediately hung up.

We had the same phone call re loft insulation.
They hung up when questioned.
Also door knockers are around, and people asking to clean up your roof etc.
So many scams etc. around at the moment.

If you're on the government shielding list they will ring you to check how you're coping . If you're not then they have the wrong number 🤷🏼♀️

Today I had a call from a local number, about loft insulation that had been previously installed. He said that his company was "Homeguard". I have had calls from this company before, usually from a 'withheld' number.
I told the caller that I was registered with the Telephone Preference Service, and would report them.
Any one so registered with the TPS can report calls, both to them and the Information Commissioner's Office. The websites are :_
TPS: tpsonline.org.uk/complaint
ICO: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint
If enough of us report such calls, hopefully the TPS and ICO will take enforcement action.
[editor]The problem is that although you might see a 'local' number, it is rarely actually coming from a local company. More often than not the call originates in a foreign call centre. TPS and ICO then have no jurisdiction. [/editor]
