Roof cleaning contractors
- M (6th Jun 2020  14:34:01)

There appears to be some workers in the area cleaning peoples roofs and then knocking on doors to see if you want yours done too.

I have never thought it was a sensible thing for someone to be walking all over your house roof and using a high power jet washer to clean off all the tiles. I've always said no way to these workmen but thought I should have a check to see if I was correct.

Below a link to the main manufacturer of roofing tiles about getting your roof cleaned by this method. I'm glad I've always said no.

I agree with M.

The removal of moss and lichen will definitely affect the life span of the roof tiles coupled with a risk that the tiles will crack under the weight of foot traffic.

In addition these people cleaning roof tiles do not have any regard to safety. There is a very high risk that they could fall from the roof onto the ground beneath with the subsequent injury to the personnel involved because they do not use access scaffold; which is contrary to Health & Safety Regulations. In this respect the property owner might be liable to fines from the Health & Safety Executive.

Are they Irish by any chance driving around in a silver ford transit??

The ones we saw, and had knocking on our door, were Irish with a silver Transit van.

Personally, after what I've read, I wouldn't let anyone pressure wash my roof, whether they were a legitimate company costing a £1000 or some door knockers charging £100.

There's absolutely no need to do it and it will cause more problems than it proposes to fix.

Do not let anyone pressure wash your roof it drives water under the tiles & will cause more damage than good -iIF you want it cleaned properly suggest you contact Guttersnipe they professionallly clean roofs & conservatories with out the use of High pressure jets _ I can recommend them we have used them for various jobs at my workplace.07816 780749 or 02393 5703

The red van and the silver they are driving has a defunct website on it etc. They probably also lack any form of insurance so if they damage your property they will be gone before you know it. Also the young kid he has with him should probably be doing some sort of schooling and not be up a roof working for a pittance...

They were in Bramshott this afternoon. The Irish accent gave him away.
Very polite
