Don’t know why he’s called Lucky. Poor thing more like -UNLUCKY...
Whoever this boy belongs to should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves...these beautiful creatures need proper care and respect.

He's fine. There is a lovely lady that takes good care of him and has been able to brush him. He is called Lucky as he was breached at birth and they managed to save him. He was born in that field apparently and knows nothing else.
Some local people have helped by providing hay and straw.
He is nervous of men and can bite because he has been ill treated by some passers by.
His owner loves him but isn't always able to look after him but if he is well, he visits most days.

No Elizabeth. His owner doesn’t love him - he’s only interested in getting his hands on the field for development...
Thank goodness whoever the lady who is looking after him is kind and attentive to him. But with horses it is not all about hay and straw! Veterinary requirements are many and expensive. Is he chipped/passported/inoculated/teeth?
Does he have his feet trimmed and I bet he’s full of lice.
Kind regards to the carer and long may your care for this unfortunate creature continue...and one last thing - horses are herd animals not meant to live alone.

Hi Ruth
I'm the husband of the lady looking after Lucky and paying for all his food - well most of it- and I can say he really loves his horse, but doesn't have ther means and now terrified of covid 19. He also recently was in poor health and couldn't look after him. It drives me nuts that I don't see her for 4 hours a day, but I wouldnt change anything. She makes me proud and glad lucky has her. Must admit she's terrified if we go into proper lockdown. Worry about the horse not owner, we' ll keep making sure hes Ok.
Stay safe
Krist

I appreciate you and your wife have the horse and his welfare in hand. Going back to the owner - if he’s fond of this horse then he shouldn’t be relying on others for feeding etc.
On bitterly wet cold days where does the horse shelter? The field and grazing are inadequate, but the owner is at home in the warm...how does he explain his behaviour etc., why does he have this horse. Why doesn’t rehome him...

Ruth, you really shouldn’t make assumptions and harsh judgments without having all the facts.
What on earth do you mean about the owner not loving his horse and just wanting to get his hands on the field for development?
There are lots of threads on here explaining why Lucky is in the field and why moving him would be detrimental to him.
Don’t shout from your soapbox, be kind and offer help if you are truly concerned.

I am amazed that the RSPCA have not taken this poor old horse to a loving home yet. Living in lonely, squalid conditions is not fair on the animal. If the owner genuinely cared for the animal he would have rehomed it. I presume he's got some claim on the land or something which is why the poor old horse is there.

Re: (Un) Lucky the horse
- Ruth (31st Mar 2020 - 12:57:28)
Hooray for Mr. Farrant...I reiterate -horses are herd animals!!
The reason this selfish owner has subjected (un)Lucky to all these years of isolation and dreadful conditions is YES he wants the land!

The RSPCA cannot take Lucky the owner will not sign him over.He is also fed and has a shelter. They used to do his hooves but I don't know if they still do it

Ruth how the hell do you think he'll get the land?? He planning building a housing complex on it? The horse probably, unfortunately, live longer than him. Unless there's a law that states if your
pet is born on a land then you own it. If so I'm off to take my pregnant lab to the silent hill build and sell it off.

Michael, re-home where? He's a stud whose never been socialised, so where do you suggest he gets rehomed? On a farm alone in a field?? Keep throwing suggestions though you making massive difference for him. Got to love keyboard saviours.

- Kris (31st Mar 2020 - 21:10:46)
Hey Diane, the RSPCA have previously said that they need him to be in a very bad state for them to take him. So either we all leave him to get into a dire sate first and starve, and then get them in or we do what we can for him. I don't know maybe share ideas, but feel uncomfortable letting an animal being tortured for his own good.oh and RSPCA have never been back

A developer owns the land and the horse would be rehoused if/ when their revised development is approved.

The RSPCA and the Equine hospital come out to him regularly.

So the horse receives expensive veterinary treatment on a regular basis at cost to the person dispensing it. I rest my case the owner should not own a horse. I wish my vet would pay for the treatment for my dog whenever it has to go to the vet, maybe I'll ask next time I'm there...

Lucky the horse
- caroline (14th Nov 2021 - 13:06:37)
Hello there, I was visiting relatives in Liphook yesterday and on a walk came across Lucky the horse. I was very concerned to see his mane which is totally matted into a huge clump on his head and equally matted down the back of his head. His mane is full of prickles and horsechestnut shells, very spiky. I've never seen anything like it to be honest. He was standing in a load of mud and altogther was a sorry sight. Two very lovely ladies stopped to speak to me and said they too were concerned about him. They told me there are people who are looking after him. I just wanted to express my own concern for the horse and my thanks to those kind Liphook people who are worried for him or doing what they can to make his life better. I hope his life improves, I live 130 miles away but can't stop thinking about this poor animal.

- er (14th Nov 2021 - 14:57:17)
This has come up not just on this thread but others and has been a talking point for many years, but it seems he's alright, he's a local institution.
I understand how every now and then people see him from the street and get all worried and concerned for his welfare but unless something has changed recently the answer has always seemed to be the same:
Apparently he is being looked after, he is happy there, he's lived there most of his life, the RSPCA know about him but declined to move him, he's nervous of strangers and not very sociable, he doesn't care whether we like his hair or not 💇♂️😁, he gets fed, a lady has been going to help regularly, the owner himself is apparently old and vulnerable but that is no reason to move the horse if he's happy there, the best advice seems to be leave him alone and don't bother him, he's being looked after.
That's the gist I think, unless anything has changed since the last time this was discussed.
Maybe the best thing we could do is open a collection for the lady who looks after him to help towards his costs, that would probably be the best help, because it sounds like she is doing her best to look after him regularly.

Re: Lucky the horse
- Big Sigh (16th Nov 2021 - 12:08:37)
It takes a dedicated South African family to care for Lucky when John is no longer able.
It takes a number of trolls to carp, moan and criticise and do nothing but. Ruddy well volunteer more than your sneers, snide remarks and criticism, if as you think you care so much.
Lucky has lived there all his life. Alone. Yes a tragedy perhaps. Those who know about horses and this stallion in particular, have stated that he would not be able to be re-homed with others. He's too anti -social now. Who else would want to after him on their premises? Any one?
I have no doubt that if Lucky could type he would express his feelings on here, in no uncertain terms.
So I reiterate....if you care so much about Lucky, visit him when his carers do; get out your wallet and contribute.

His owner keeps him there because he wants ownership of the field if he did care about the horse he would not be kept in such a terrible condition.
