Shockingly bad service - Lloyds Pharmacy
- Martin Lloyd (10th May 2022 - 11:01:24)

After years of swallowing the awful service at Lloyd's pharmacy today was the last straw. After waiting 45-mins I was told that my prescription wasn't in their system but my daughters was. When I asked how long that would be they told me 1-hr. When I asked for the name of the person in charge so that I could write a letter of complaint I was asked to wait again while they saw to another customer first. An East German bread shop would not be satisfied with the levels of customer service offered at this pharmacy. I'm taking my business to Shottermill and I hope others do too as there seems to be no motivation for them to improve while would be customers form long lines and complain or laugh about the service quietly among themselves.

I have waited 13 days for 3 prescriptions to be made up. When I dared to mention this they just said it would be a further hour. I appreciate they are busy but surely this is ridiculous. Then to add to this they didn't have enough of one of the medications I needed. So in 5 days further trip to pick them up.

Hi,
I think the pharmacy staff need some respect. They have been open and worked throughout the Pandemic.
There are current shortages of medicines, and people have become more impatient nowadays since the health crisis.
Lloyds employees work hard in a difficult day-to-day job, give them some time, and we will all benefit.

Use the postal service for your medications, I do, that way you don't need to go to the chemist.

Paul,
I could accept your comments about respect for the staff if there was any attempt from them to try to engage with customers, advise them what is happening when they face challenges at certain times and the alternative options customers may have. Leaving the front counter unstaffed while elderly and frail people queue in silence and they amble around talking to themselves is not good enough. Covid has been an excuse for poor service for too long now. Certainly thanks are due to all front line workers who kept going through it all but that’s done, it’s 2022 and customer facing staff should maintain basic standards of customer service rather than avoiding customers, attempting to intimidate customers by shouting at them (yes I’ve seen this in Lloyds) and making excuses for their failings rather than apologising or doing something about it.

In the thread I started a couple of days before this one, I suggested getting your prescriptions texted to you, then you can pick up the phone and ring round to other pharmacies and give the code over the phone. Boots in Liss are amazing. If Lloyds have your prescription you can’t get it back to take elsewhere. They are often out of certain drugs, I suspect their supplier does not have good access to some.

Once I gave my code over the phone, by the time I got there it was ready for me. I know people have them delivered, and this will suit some, but it is no good if they don’t have it in stock.

By getting the code, you have control over your prescription and can show it to other pharmacies if you are not in Liphook.

Personally I find the female staff very pleasant and helpful. But the system is rubbish. I have never seen so many resentful customers present anywhere, half the shop isn’t used, old people find it exhausting to stand in queues for half an hour. So vote with your feet.

Get your prescriptions online, no more queuing. Although it does need sorting out. The population of Liphook has grown a lot over the last few years but Lloyds hasn't kept up.

The pharmacy is now way to small to cope with a place the size of Liphook.
There needs to be more seating for those who are infirm and a self service till where those who just want to make purchases.
It must be a thankless task to work there as it is currently set up to fail on customer satisfaction.
Many of the staff are really lovely others obviously need some customer service training.
I 100% agree there needs to be improvement but i am also so grateful we have a pharmacy and the expertise of a pharmacist available to us.

There has been a huge drop in the number of pharmacists registering with the General Pharmaceutical Council since that thing beginning with B we all voted for that is now a complete taboo to even mention.

There is a vast amount of things happening to this country since that decision, accepted not all of those things are directly related but a massive amount are.

We have a shortage of pharmacists, too few pharmacists = queues and bad service am afraid. Many packed up and left as it was made clear they where not welcome, even the lorry drivers dont want to take cross channel jobs, they are happy to stay on the continent beginning with E... thats another word we are not allowed to use either now.

My post is relevant as its the source of the problem at Lloyds and blaming them directly when they struggle to get a required member of staff that it takes 10 years to educate and train.

Thanks the advice on doing it on the phone, will try it. A week ago a visit to Liphook Lloyds resulted in queuing for 55 minutes (having ordered my husbands prescription seven days previously) to be told to return later that day. I then queued another 45 minutes and two items were missing! Yesterday went to get my own prescription and Hooray -- one person in there. Alas, prescription not made up -- could I return in about 40 minutes!!

I've decided to try the online/delivery service for my next prescription. Fingers crossed!

It means, of course, that I will no longer be picking up toiletries and over-the-counter meds in Lloyds either, as it certainly wouldn't be worth all the hanging around in order to buy something that I can easily get elsewhere.

Re: Shockingly bad service - Lloyds Pharmacy
- C (15th May 2022 - 12:22:15)

Due to many very long waits at Lloyd’s, I’ve also switched to the online delivery service, meds received by Royal Mail within a few days, great service.

Lloyds management need to get a grip and sort this out urgently - do they need more staff, more tills, another pharmacist?

It would be so sad to lose this vital amenity - if we all take our prescriptions elsewhere due to the awful queues, it may no longer be viable.

I also have gone online to have my and my husbands medication delivered. 3months in and no complaints yet.

- paul (15th May 2022 - 19:33:53)

Hi,
Whatever method of needing to prescribe medicines, one needs to realize the sole reason for slow service, or lack of medicines.
The government years ago cut back on funding of pharmacies to local areas. Now they cannot cope with demands, therefore lower standards across the medicines service. Also staff needing high training, and service skills.

Don't blame queuing up at a chemist .The problem in U.K. to dispense controlled medicines is much deeper, and no government or organizations has solved.

So Paul why is it that other places for medicine can supply with no problem ie GEES of Bordon and others. I think the problem lie’s with Lloyds it seems to be country wide according to reports. Liphook needs a complete overall not a good service at all. The shop is a shambles the staff are very good but on a looser because it’s not run right.

Re: Shockingly bad service - Lloyds Pharmacy
- paul (15th May 2022 - 23:01:49)

Oldie,
If Liphook pharmacy "is not run right" what should they do compared to other chemist shops in the area?
I think the issue is demand, too many customers in our village, and only shop in village of many needy people.
Have a pharmacy at Sainsbury's Liphook and problem solved, like they have other larger places in our county.

Re: Shockingly bad service - Lloyds Pharmacy
- Joe (16th May 2022 - 08:39:43)

I think more people would use some of the home delivery services on offer if they knew about them, then they would not have to queue in any chemist. I believe it is free.

@Paul
Strange how one minute you're blaming the government for the bad service at Lloyds and the next you say it's Lloyds being run badly and they have too many customers and we should have a pharmacy in Sainsbury's.
If you think Sainsbury's can run a good pharmacy then it's obviously not an issue with the government? Or have I missed something?
Personally I think Lloyds Pharmacy in Liphook had an issue with back room staffing. They don't appear to have a good system for ordering, making up and dispensing prescriptions.

Re: Shockingly bad service - Lloyds Pharmacy
- Jen (16th May 2022 - 11:11:59)

Joe, there are posters and cards advertising the online/postal delivery service for prescriptions in various places inside the pharmacy. Considering the amount of time that every customer has to spend queuing in the shop, I doubt that there are many customers who haven't seen the advertisements and are not aware of the existence of the service!

Re: Shockingly bad service - Lloyds Pharmacy
- Joe (16th May 2022 - 17:19:15)

I was highlighting all the online pharmacy deliveries not just Lloyds chemists.

I’m only surprised this hasn’t come up before. Appalling customer service and don’t acknowledge customer let alone engage.

I collected my prescriptions this morning. The service was prompt, polite and professional. There was a queue but then there are too many people taking prescription drugs. Neither of the two people in front of me in the queue said please or thankyou. I don't think I'd like to work there.

I was once prescribed antibiotic cream for an eye infection by Grayshott Surgery, I was dispensed a cosmetic product for Dry Eye by Lloyds ~ no apology or explanation, lucky it was not for something FAR MORE serious. They are not a very good example of a dispensing chemist ~ try Badgers Wood Headley, A! +++
