Pharmacy blues - and a solution
- Mary W (9th May 2022 - 16:49:40)

Sick to death of queuing to drop off a prescription, queuing again to pick it up, and if not fully available, queuing yet again to collect the remainder, and queuing again while it is eventually made up? I know you recognise the situation.

The item I needed is almost impossible to obtain locally, maybe the source our local pharmacy uses is limited.

So, in desperation mixed with a large quantity of frustration, I tried something new to me, I asked my surgery to give me the prescription in a text to my mobile, so that I could go to any chemist. Then I got on the phone and rang round with immediate success at Boots in Liss. I read out the code to the pharmacist, and by the time I had harnessed the horses and reached Liss my prescription was ready and waiting for me.

How about that for stress free medical care?

Another reason to get a smartphone…

(It was an electric car actually).

Yes had the same problem in the chemist in liphook. The surgery changed me to GEES Bordon just drop the repeat off at the surgery couple of days delivered to my door. If they don’t have all the items they get them quickly and deliver again straight away. Fantastic service.

You can also set up an account with Lloyds online that allows you to request your prescription online and have it sent to your door with free postage. I work and have 2 small children so getting to the pharmacy for my monthly medication can be tricky, especially when there’s queues or they don’t have the medication (which is sadly a fairly common issue there) but ordering online takes less than 5 minutes and I don’t have go anywhere!

I agree. The staff in Lloyds are wonderful, very patient with (sometimes irate) customers and always busy. But the system they use doesn't seem to be able to meet the needs of customers. Perhaps they're chronically short-staffed or maybe an increase in demand means that they now need larger premises.

Agree, the young women are really great, and have a couple of favourites. But their system needs an overhaul, including their suppliers. Twice when my medication had not been in stock for weeks, i have been able to obtain it after a couple of phone calls elsewhere.

They have two tills and half the retail space is rarely used, only the back area.

If someone drops a prescription in earlier, it should be made up and put in another part of the shop so the customer can go straight there to collect. Why you should have to queue again to collect while customers make their queries or purchase other products is beyond me. The whole point of dropping a prescription off is to expedite it. I have been there when tensions in the queue rise very high - I have never experienced this in a pharmacy before.

I shall shop with my feet and hope never to set foot in the place again. And don’t blame it on Covid. It is time and motion study that should be addressed.

Ask your surgery to put your prescription code in a text direct to your mobile and be free to shop where you like. Ring up, quote the code in the text, and your medication will be done and ready to collect.
