Best three places to visit in Liphook for new residents?
- paul (8th Jan 2022 - 19:55:49)

Hi,
There are many new home owners in our village, and expanding with new developments.
What are the best three places to go locally to help newcomers?
For a walk, to eat, and for social groups.

My three,
Walk - Punch Bowl, Hindhead
Eat - Deers Hut Pub.
Social Group -U3A ( For new ideas, skills, and activities)

A lot of the people moving into the new developments will be young people with young children. Perhaps not the UA3 which is for retired people, or pubs which have an older clientele. I would recommend Guido's as a good restaurant in Liphook, when I went there were family groups and lots of young people. Last time at the Prince of Wales the food was not good at all.
The Deers Hut is good. The Jolly Drovers has quite an older clientele and is not very local. The food in the Rising Sun Milland is good and is in a lovely area. Also good to visit is Hollycoombe for all ages and the sculpture park at Churt, Devils Punch bowl and Applegarth restaurant and cafe.

What about the Anchor. Middle of the village good cheap food and large plates of food.

I just know I'm going to be lambasted for this, but the question did ask for places in Liphook. Most of the suggestions offered aren't in Liphook.

The Liphook Heritage Centre is a good place to visit for local information. Our volunteers have a wealth of knowledge and are always happy to assist visitors.
The web site www.liphookheritage.org.uk also includes a selection of local walks.

The Heritage Centre is located on the first floor of the Millennium Centre.
Opening times are given on the web site.

As a new resident myself I’d recommend The Links and Guidos.

Adrian not nice A3 slip road to where. If you don’t like Liphook then move but perhaps you don’t live here.

Some very good reply’s we are blessed with a lovely place to live. Common land all around us to walk all day if you want. Very good pubs all around us for all levels of price from gastro to coffee shops. Plenty of shops to cater for most of our needs. And a fantastic community with lots of volunteers to keep our village/ town looking marvellous. Wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Radford Park. Admittedly rather muddy at the moment but lovely walk round and in the summer why not take a picnic to the grassy area!
Definite visit for newcomers would be the Heritage Centre. Lots of interesting things including a new display on the railway in Liphook.
For those with young children the playground in the Recreation Park off London Road.

Great suggestions Jen. We love Radford Park.

Not sure if it still exists but the lake at Bohunt Manor was always a treat on the one day of the year it was open to the public. Maybe the south Downs National Park could make it a public place for us all to enjoy. Probably not.

The pond at Bohunt is privately owned used to have to pay to look around it. A business now owns the house and the pond so you could always ask the owners of the house. As you used to have to.

It is privately owned and leased by a business. The lake and garden is a sanctuary for wildlife, particularly wildfowl as per the Holmans wishes. It is no longer open to the public, partly due to regular theft and vandalism in the past and currently as it is used as a private garden.

When Lady Holman died I hoped the new owners, The World Wildlife Fund, would make this wonderful place even more accessible to the residents of Liphook. We all know the story and I'm certainly not going to rake it all up again here, sadly my hopes were not to be. I have heard of Bohunt Manor being referred to as a "gateway to the south Downs National Park". Well, it looks like the gate is firmly padlocked. Don't seem to like sharing, this national park lot.
