Motorbikes in woods
- Jayne (20th Sep 2021 - 13:14:07)

Both days this weekend there was a group of kids on small motorbikes tearing at high speed round the woods off Highfield Lane/Iron Hill.

Is this allowed?! They weren’t sticking to tracks/paths but careering around the woods oblivious to wildlife, walkers, runners etc.

What are the rules here? I’m pretty sure motorised vehicles aren’t permitted to enter these woods?

There were signs up towards the end of last week advising of a planned event on Iron Hill.

I would guess they were involved with that or children of those that were.

It's an annual event held on the Forestry Commission land. The route is signed a couple of days in advance and there were advisory signs around the site for a couple of weeks. Perhaps, if you have concerns, contact the Forestry Commission?

I think the event you refer to is run by the Whitley Motorcycle Club. It is an annual organised enduro event where all the riders pay a fee as well as insurance to take part. Their motorcycles are inspected for safety before the event. Spectators are most welcome. In answer to the original question, yes, it is allowed.

I am surprised there is no land available around Whitely? I thought Whitely was near Fareham? A long way to come.

WHITLEY, not WHITELY. It's near Milford just up the road.

Do you mean Witley then? Still lots of land around Witley!

There aren't that many great places to do enduro and this is a goodt spot, not too busy and relatively easy to make secure, I've watched it before when I seem to remember it was the Kingston Area Club who came down here, a lot of fun obviously being had, good luck to them!

Portsmouth Motorcycle Club have events here too. All three clubs mentioned here participate in events in Scotland and Wales as well.
