Vicious huskies
- Ian (7th May 2021 - 20:16:21)
Please be aware my partner and myself were walking our small dogs on the new park of lark rise our dogs were on leads a man with 2 young children and baby on his back had no control of his 2 large husky dogs which were off their leads ran over to our dogs and one of his dog tried to attack one of my dogs. Please if your dogs don’t have good recall keep them on their leads. Don’t be selfish irresponsible dog owners... I’m furious ????

I've had two run ins with this man and these huskies on Weavers Down near the Deers Hut. The second time from a distance I politely requested that he put them on a lead because of the way they aggressively pinned my dog down the first time I came across them. I received verbal abuse from him and he was unable to put them on leads because he stated "he doesn't have leads" I now feel uncomfortable walking there and fear walking around a corner and coming face to face with them. In 13 years of walking over there I have never had anything like this happen to me before it's such a shame and I'm sorry this has happened to you too and I knew it was just a matter of time before I read that it had happened to someone else.

The only action you can take is report it to the police. The more reports, the more of a case they can build.
From pdsa:
It’s a criminal offence to allow your dog to be ‘dangerously out of control’ – this counts in both public and private areas. This could be anything from your dog chasing a person or another animal to physically harming them. If this happens, you may have to pay a fine, compensation and costs. If your dog hurts a person, unfortunately they can be seized by police and may even be humanely destroyed.

Remember there is no such thing as a bad dog it's a bad owner.
By the sounds of it the owner is very aggressive and anti-social something which the dogs will pick up.

Actually James there are "bad dogs". many breeds are not suitable as pets; appreciate it is not the dogs fault, normally the numbskulls that think its "big" to have a nasty vicious bad breed of dog are to blame. However there are some innocent owners that get caught out because by a bad piece of luck or genetics they have a "bad" dog. Bit like some kids!

Huskies are usually a breed kept on the lead but although from the sound of it they bounded up to a dog on the lead there was no actual attack? The legal definition of a dog dangerously out of control means more than just not on the lead. Most dogs need off lead time.

Sorry Ian that was not obvious to me from your first post . If they behave like that they should be on the lead .

Sorry you've had this incident.
As others have said primarily it's the owners fault, not necessarily the dogs. I've have friends with Huskies and they were the nicest dogs you could want.... if a little hairy!
Don't let them put you off walking your own dogs but make sure you have a phone with you and if you see them approaching you and your dogs make sure you take a video.
Dog owners need to understand their responsibility to their own dogs as well as to the general public. If a dog is not under control then they should be reported to the relevant authorities, be that the Police if the dog is aggressive or EHDC if it is not under control and causing a nuisance. A video showing the incident will be great proof and ensure action can be taken.
If no one takes any action then this sort of issue will continue, take a stand and make a difference.
