Time for speed cameras
- Steve Mac (8th Apr 2021 - 16:46:35)

Surely time has come for additional speed measures in our village!?

I'd like to see several speed cameras...one on Portsmouth Road near the Royal Mail sorting office, one on Portsmouth Road near The Links, one on Longmoor Road near the Deers Hut and another on Headley Road near the Co-op. I am fed up of drivers using these stretches of road as race tracks. It won't be long before we see a pedestrian seriously injured or worse.

Yes I agree 100%,so many speeders around

Also, speed humps are necessary on Midhurst Road, on the stretch from the Railway Bridge going towards Midhurst. An accident waiting to happen, pedestrians cross the road at a blind spot. Drivers use that bit of road as a race track 😬.

Agreed.

The general standard of driving in Liphook is pretty shocking. Not only speeding but driving in the middle of the road (especially that bend between railway bridge and entrance to Berg estate) and lack of indicators. Never understood why no speed checks through 20mph limit near Bohunt School.

The only problem Steve is the stretch of road past the Deers Hut is 60mph which is way too fast in the first place.

I would agree with some sensible speed enforcement measures but speed cameras are a mistake. The problem is tjey are 24 hrs a day, there is a difference of going at say 40MPH past bohunt school at 3.30 when the kids are coming out of school and the same at 2am when there is no traffic about.

AF- what a ridiculous argument. People speed on our road late at night with the result that people's cats get killed, as well as deer and badgers being hit more often than they would be if people drove to the speed limit. There are also people walking along the road sometimes at night. Are you suggesting people should go at whatever speed they think is ok according to road conditions? What about the morons who think it's fine for them to use their phones while they are driving? Is that ok if the road isn't busy?

@AF - what a ridiculous contribution; although in character I guess!!

Well said Passfield resident, a pathetic statement from AF.
AF, you’re not a BMW driver by any chance are you?!!!

Speed cameras near schools? The parents bring the traffic to a grinding halt anyway.

Add one on London road too, hardly anyone does 30 along it.

Re: Time for speed cameras
- er (18th Apr 2021 - 15:42:43)

Let's take away everyone's lives fences for doing mad speeds like 35 in a 40 zone, then the world will be healthier and happier as we all sit at home unemployed eating crisps, let's face it if they sell us cars that accelerate from 0 to 100 in under 10 seconds with top speeds of 130 plus, it's impossible to drive everywhere at 30 or you'd go insane watching your Speedo, telling your passengers to stop speaking as you had to concentrate on not going over 30, the nanny state has gone mad when 100 times more people die from stress than being run over and we have to look further and further from home to find a job that pays the £500,000 mortgage on our 3 bedroom semi!
