Broadband fibre application - please read and spread the word!
- Neil (20th Jan 2021 - 15:20:11)

Hi there

I'm not really sure of the best way to spread this message so I'm starting off by using Talkback. So, firstly, apologies if this message doesn't apply to you.

I made an application a while back on behalf of our cul de sac to get a free upgrade to our internet connection that should dramatically improve internet speeds. On initial enquiry this upgrade by Openreach is FREE due to a £3,000 per property voucher being offered by Hampshire County Council hampshiresuperfastbroadband.com/top-up (if you don't live on one of the roads listed below then I'd urge you to sign up for your own community).

It seems that the process covers a lot more properties than just the 10 I listed on our application though; a few surrounding roads too. Although seemingly not every single property on those roads. Confusing.

Anyway, the addresses listed in the letter are all on Huron Drive, Canada Way, Ontario Way and Alberta Close. If you are interested in getting significantly faster internet for nothing, then please email me at nbancroftj@gmail.com with your house number and road name plus your landline number, and I will collate addresses that are interested. Don't worry, your details are safe with me and won't be shared except with Openreach.

I'm hoping that by posting on here and some word of mouth (well, probably electronic messaging in these lockdown days) I can get the details of a lot of the properties from these roads. If and when we get enough to cover the cost via the vouchers, I'll press the button with Openreach. The cost we need to fund as a 'community' is £40,000, so we need 14 properties or more to make it free based on the vouchers offered by Hampshire County Council.

Obviously these things take time so I can't promise when the installation of the faster lines would actually happen.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Many thanks

Neil

well done
we are in the throws of doing this in Passfield.

you have to get a certain number of people to sign up before they will d the upgrade - which is a conundrum - if they don't know about it - how will they sign up.....

you may need to set up a Facebook page to help raise awareness, and be prepared for any awareness you create to be deemed as 'gloating' or inappropriate contact/movement during a panemic.

also be prepared for people to completely misunderstand the 'voucher' system. the wording is very confusing and most people think they are going to get charged thousands of pounds.

good luck

Do you know anything about Edmonton Way? GU30 7TG

Doesn’t come up on the search, which seems odd if Alberta Close is on there.

Hi

Edmonton Way wasn’t listed on the letter I got from Openreach so I’d suggest you contact them separately via the link in my original post.

So far we have 17 properties signed up from Canada Way, Huron Drive, Ontario Way and Alberta Close. If you live on one of these roads and haven’t got in touch with me already, please drop me an email nbancroftj@gmail.com. Much faster broadband awaits for no cost! But it takes working together as a community. Please mention this to neighbours too,

Thanks

Neil

Hi

I’ve had some more interest in this but to guarantee it we need more names. Please get in touch if you want to be included. There really is no downside. Demands on your internet connection will only go up over time so a higher speed for free is too good to overlook, isn’t it?

Thanks

Neil

Don’t you have to commit to a higher monthly cost though ?

That could be a downside for many.

Hi Alan

The upgrade to the infrastructure will allow faster options but you don't have to upgrade the package you're on. Having said that you may well get faster speeds even without upgrading. There really is no downside.

Thanks

Neil

Hi all

Update:

We have the go-ahead from Openreach for a cost-free upgrade to fibre to the premises. Cost covered by a Hampshire County Council voucher scheme.

If you live on St James' Park (the estate behind Sainsburys) and are interested please drop your details (name, address, landline no.) to nahlbj@gmail.com.

The upgrade covers a list of 101 properties on the estate. There's a few houses at the beginning of Canada Way that are NOT included and would need a separate application. I can let you know if you're on the list Openreach gave me if you contact me.

We're currently at 33 properties and need to hit 40ish for this to go ahead (35 required minimum plus some reserves).

It would be a MAJOR increase in your broadband speeds so please don't hesitate in contacting me. There's plenty of research to show that a fast internet connection is becoming increasingly important to housebuyers so you'll be future proofing yourself too.

Many thanks
Neil
