Getting back to normal
- Yellow Bannanna Adrian (6th Aug 2020 - 23:38:54)

I think we really need to make an effort to start getting back to pre-covid days.

The virus will be with us for some time and we have to learn to live with it.

The damage that the measures taken to tackle the issue are massive, far worse than the disease itself.

It is now expected that over 1 million people will lose their jobs by the end of the year. Hospitals have cut back on cancer and heart treatments which will cause extra deaths.

OK i accept that social distancing will have to stay and face masks worn in some areas, but those working from home need to get back to their offices and spending money, we need to go out to the pubs and restaurants to support them, foreign holidays are a bit dodgy so spend some time in UK hotels as they need the business.

The media has scared people far more than the virus warranted. You won't catch the virus if you pass someone in the shop with the virus, you need to be in close contact with someone for at least 15 mins to have a chance of getting it, there are a number of cases of people living with someone with the virus including sleeping together and not catching it.

Baselessness of information: 2/10
Controversy of opinion: 7/10
Humour of delivery: 0/10
Overall: 3/10

In this post, YBA attempts to return to his hayday of long prose trolling, setting up a clear premise in counterpoint to what he views as the behaviour of the "general public".

Sadly it doesn't quite capture the essence of his earlier work as a lot of the original, non-sensical humour is lost replaced with what are intended to be deep and well thought out expressions of his opinions. These come off as derivative and somewhat confused focusing on the need to go back to work and yet not take foreign holidays.

Overall, not his best work, but a good forum post for a read on a Saturday night

Adrian. Try to put yourself in the position of someone who has lost family in this pandemic. They might not agree with you. The rest of us don't need your patronising advice.

10/10 for the forum reviewer and complete agreement with Passfield resident.

This forum would be a lot better if we didn’t have the trolling from a man attempting to promote a handle based on a fruit.

Adrian,

Yes, the virus is going to be with us for some time.

I disagree with you that the measures taken to tackle the issue are massive and far worse than the disease itself. In the half-year this virus has been around it has killed over 700 thousand people.

Hospitals had to cut back on treatments. Cancer treatment can weaken the immune system. However, if you had done your research they are now doing 'COVID-friendly' cancer treatments that are less likely to weaken the immune system.

Adrian, that is one definition of close contact. Take a look at the link below for what the gov say is contact, I will give you a few examples: Sexual partners, face-to-face contact (within one metre), contact within one metre for one minute or longer without face-to-face contact.

Now, as for sexual intercourse I strongly doubt that someone with covid-19 does not give it to their sexual partners. First of you are in close contact, secondly heavy breathing etc, and I doubt they are wearing a face mask. If you have got evidence that states otherwise please share.

As someone who has been in lockdown since March due to health YBA I find your comment highly inflamatory ( no change their always you seem too like stirirng things up)

I have been out 5 times since March Hospital dentist and just a drive to break the same old 4 walls syndrome

Seeing how so many do not follow advice or their lack of caring for others I find myself wanting NOT to go out as I would not survive covid

Maybe you should walk in another's shoes for a while and take off your rose tinted specs

Editor please stop this YBA from any further comments on this site.

Adrian does have some very valid points. We do need to get back to some sort of normality, in fact the whole world has to for the sake of the younger generation.
It appears that most of us are really not that fearful of this virus whereas there are those who's fear is affecting their ability to function normally.
Yes people have died but a lot of other things can take one away too.
But as usual on here someone is not allowed an opinion, and the witch hunt begins in earnest. Out with the knives and the hostile words. As for resident I could hardly believe what I read,
"Editor please stop this YBA from any further comments on this site."
Really ? Who are you , the thought police ? Adrian has as much right, possibly more so as he doesn't tend to speak badly about people.

- JC (7th Aug 2020 - 11:29:54)

Adrian,

I agree with you on one of your points, that being: "The damage that the measures taken to tackle the issue are massive, far worse than the disease itself"

It seems highly likely that a great many more people will be adversely affected by the Covid control measures than by the virus itself. Businesses both large and small will fold, with resultant job losses, potential house repossessions and permanent loss of amenities within communities; people with untreated non-Covid conditions will experience health deterioration and some will die as a result; suicides are likely to increase, due to severe mental health problems caused by lost businesses, lost homes and lost livelihoods...

The list goes on and on. The huge global economic downturn will throw greater numbers of people into poverty, with all the resultant health implications that entails. In poorer countries, there will be a greater risk of starvation.

Re: Getting back to normal
- C (7th Aug 2020 - 12:07:43)

Adrian does have some valid points. The virus is not lurking outside your front door to get you with your first breath outside. You have to be in CLOSE contact with an infected person, or to have touched something they have touched after coughing or sneezing on their hand AND then transmit from your hand to your mouth.

The risk to everyone under 70 who has no serious health conditions is minimal and can easily be managed by taking sensible precautions (masks, hand-washing, staying away from crowded indoor places).

In all of Hampshire, including the cities, there are only 34 current cases

We all need to take it seriously, protect ourselves, the elderly and those with health conditions but not over react to what for most people is not going to be a significant illness.

Waiting now to be shot down!!

Fruit Troll has no valid points as he is attempting to brainwash us that we are all living in fear and being all populist about it

We are not living in fear !

We are attending the pubs, We are shopping in all the shops locally that are open, We are going about our lives just as we had been, albeit at 2m apart and with a few masks on so get over this idea we are in fear.

Just like the fake news on telly don't suddenly think a local Fruit Troll is offering more credible information. The Fruit Troll needs responses to feed the ego and loves nothing more than getting a rise out of all.

Some great comments and reviews here !

Was just loading my shotgun, C, to make a comment that your fake news about 34 cases in Hampshire was just so ridiculous and couldn’t be possible and you should stop spreading these rumours.

Finger on the trigger, I thought I’d just double check !

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51768274

Bloody hell. Went down last week to 32. And 2 cases per 100k of population (vs 5 per 100k in England).

That’ll learn me !!!

Keep up the good work folks and don’t get complacent !

Have a great weekend.

Cheers, Finchie

Thanks Finchie.

For those interested in official data, there is a map and graphs here:

russss.github.io/covidtracker/map.html

Click on a local authority area on the map to see the number of new cases over the last 45 days. There was only one in all of East Hampshire in the seven days.

Blimey - socialists with a sense of humour, that’s a first or just an anomaly!!
